Every month, we see a handful of new smartphones making their way into the market. Luckily, we have an interesting lineup of upcoming smartphones launching in August 2024 as well that buyers can look out for. These range from budget to mid-range, and flagships to give you access to a whole array of models to choose based on your preferences. 

Interestingly, Google has upped its launch pipeline with Google Pixel 9 Series taking a spot in August 2024 instead of October as usual. Additionally, you get access to smartphones from Vivo, iQOO, Honor, Xiaomi and beyond.

List of Smartphones Launching in August 2024

We have already seen a tonne of pretty impressive collections of smartphones launch this year. As we enter the month of August 2024, let’s dive into the list of phones we will see that will surely spoil our choices this month.

Nothing Phone (2a) Plus

Launched: July 31st

Ideally, Nothing Phone (2a) Plus should’ve been a part of our July 2024 list, however, the news broke down all of a sudden and thus, we are including this in the August 2024 edition.

Launched officially, the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus sees the same display setup as Phone (2a) aka a 6.7” AMOLED 120Hz panel with 1300 nits of peak brightness. It has received a better 50MP front camera setup instead of 32MP on the vanilla 2a. On the rear, we have a 50MP primary w/ OIS and a 50MP ultra-wide lens in a dual camera setup (duh!).

On the processor front, we have a Dimensity 7350 Pro SoC with Mali-G610 MC4 GPU that brings better CPU and GPU performance. It has 8/12GB RAM and 256GB of storage capacities to choose from. Being a Plus variant, it does have an upper hand compared to the budget-friendly 2a.

POCO M6 Plus 5G

On the very first day itself, we have the POCO M6 Plus 5G in the market with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen2 AE SoC under the hood. Android 14-powered HyperOS handles the software end of the device. It is paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage. On the front, you get a 6.79-inch LCD FHD+ panel with a 120Hz Adaptive Sync refresh rate. The device sports a 108MP primary 3x in-sensor zoom cam. Check out its Flipkart listing to get your hands on the budget-friendly phone.

Motorola Edge 50 Series

Various models under the Moto Edge 50 Series have launched already leaving the standard Moto Edge 50 waiting for its debut. The Edge 50 has finally arrived, and it is the world’s thinnest MIL-810H military-grade smartphone. The phone has been tested for IP68 standards giving its rivals a run for their money. Available across Motorola.in and Flipkart among leading offline stores. 

Motorola Edge 50 packs in a 6.67” pOLED panel peak brightness of up to 1900 nits. There’s a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC under the hood paired with a vapor chamber cooling system giving it much of a gaming vibe. The phone has been promised to receive three years of OS upgrades and four years of security patches.

Honor Magic 6 Pro

It’s not just the budget and mid-range phones, but you’ll find a flagship phone in the mix as well. I am talking about Honor Magic 6 Pro as it prepares for its launch on August 2 with a 6.8” quad-curved AMOLED LTPO panel with variable refresh rate. The display has 5,000 nits of peak HDR brightness, 4320Hz PWM dimming, and a 10-fold anti-drop rated Jurhino Glass on top for protection. 

Honor has packed in a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC with up to 12GB of RAM, Android 14-powered MagicOS 8.0 on the software front on the performance & software end. On the optics side, we have a 50MP primary plus 50MP ultra-wide and a 180MP periscope telephoto with OIS and 2.5x optical zoom. There’s also a 50MP selfie shooter with a 3D cam to support facial recognition and depth of field. 

Finally, the phone packs in a massive 5,600mAh battery paired with 66W wireless and 80W wired charging on top. We have already seen the flagship in China with the Indian launch scheduled on August 2nd.

iQOO Z9s Series

As usual, iQOO has a phone to launch this month as well. Dubbed as iQOO Z9s series, it likely comprises two new smartphones dubbed iQOO Z9s and Z9s Pro. iQOO has already taken to X (formerly Twitter) with a Sneak Peek Session on August 4 in Coimbatore and Bengaluru.

iQOO Z9s Pro is slated to come with a 6.78” curved AMOLED 120Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC, and a 5500mAh battery tech. On the optics front, we have a 16MP selfie and a 50MP Sony LYT600 sensor, and the device is expected to be priced around INR 25,000/-.

Infinix Note 40x 5G

Get ready to witness yet another phone from Infinix. Launching on August 5, the phone packs in a 6.78-inch IPS LCD FHD+ panel and a 8MP selfie cam. The device draws its power from Dimensity 6300 SoC paired alongside 25GGB UFS 2.2 storage and up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM while Android 14-powered XOS 14 will handle the software side. 

The mid-range device uses a 108MP AI cam at the back. Under the hood, you’ll find a 5,000mAh battery paired with 18W fast charging tech. Other features include DTS audio, NFC, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, etc. You can choose between Starlit, Lime Green, and Palm Blue colorways via Flipkart on the launch date.

Huawei Nova Flip

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei is set to launch a flip-style foldable phone dubbed Nova Flip. It will debut in China on August 6, and I am not sure if this will see the light in other parts of the world. According to reports, this Galaxy Z Flip6-like foldable sports a 6.94” LTPO OLED panel boosting a resolution of 2690 × 1136 pixels and 120Hz refresh rate. There’s a 2.14” OLED 60Hz panel. 

Under the hood, you’ll get a Kirin 9-series chipset, probably Kirin 9000S or Kirin 9010 or an entirely new chipset to be announced as well. There’s up to 12GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. A 4,400mAh battery sits under the chassis paired with 66W fast charging tech. On the optics front, the phone has a 32MP selfie cam and a 50MP RYYB primary plus an 8MP ultra-wide lens at the back.

Vivo V40 Series

Vivo V40 arrived globally just a few weeks ago but has been awaiting its launch in India. Cut to now, both Vivo V40 and V40 Pro are slated for their Indian launch on August 7. Both the devices will have 80W wired charging, 5500mAh battery, IP68 dust and water resistance, a 6.78-inch 3D curved AMOLED panel boosting 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. 

Vivo V40 sports a 50P Sony IMX921 primary cam with OIS, a 50MP ultra-wide with 119° FoV, and a Sony IMX816 50MP telephoto snapper capable of reaching 2x optical and 50X ZEISS Hyper Zoom. V40 will pack in Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC while the Pro gets a Dimensity 9200+ up its sleeves. You can choose between Titanium Grey and Ganges Blue on the Pro while the vanilla V40 is available in an additional Lotus Purple colorways as well.

Google Pixel 9 Series

Undoubtedly, the Pixel 9 series launch is one of the most anticipated in August 2024. The series comprises four models — Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold and will be powered by Google Tensor G4 SoC. We have seen a tonne of leaks around the Pixel 9 Series including the colorways, the specs, and its performance and beyond.

On the optics front, we may get to see a dual 50MP Samsung GNK w/ OIS + 50MP Sony IMX858 cam ultra-wide shooter. On the other hand, Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL will see an additional Sony IMX858 50MP w/ OIS telephoto snapper. 

Pixel 9 Pro Fold, on the other hand, could see a 48MP Sony IMX787 OIS main cam, a 12MP Samsung 3LU ultra-wide, and a 10.5MP Samsung 3J1 w/ OIS telephoto as the primary camera. Talking about its selfie shooters, we have two Samsung 3K1 10MP snappers standing firm on the inner and the outer screens. The series launched globally on August 13 followed by Indian launch on August 14.

Motorola E14

Launch Date: 3rd/4th week of August

No, you aren’t reading that wrong but Motorola E14 is incoming this month. Silently launched in a couple of markets more than a month ago, the Moto E14 is speculated to make it to Indian shores this month with an estimated price tag of INR 5,999/-. Sporting an Unisoc T606 SoC, 2GB RAM, and Android 14 Go software, E14 will make it the most of the budget category. There’s a 6.56” IPS LCD panel with HD+ resolution, Gorilla Glass 3, a 90Hz refresh rate, and an IP52 water-repellent rating as well. 

On the optics front, we see a 5MP front and a 13MP+0.8MP rear dual camera setup. There’s a 5,000mAh battery under the hood plus 15W charging tech. Everything else remains pretty much unchanged including Bluetooth v5.0, Wi-Fi 5, dual-SIM slots, Dolby Atmos, and a headphone jack to name a few.
