- Apple is reportedly adding a second front-facing camera to the M5 iPad Pro, enhancing video calling in both portrait and landscape orientations.
- The dual camera setup aims to solve user complaints from the M4 model, ensuring better alignment for FaceTime and selfies regardless of how the iPad is held.
- Mass production of the M5 iPad Pro is expected in the second half of 2025, with a possible release window around September or October.
Apple is planning a big camera upgrade for its iPad Pro line, according to recent news. The new M5 iPad Pro might get two front cameras to make video calls and user experience better in both landscape and portrait modes.
M5 iPad Pro dual front cameras to improve usability in any orientation
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is adding two front cameras to its next-generation iPad Pro. Unlike the M4 model, which has one front camera placed for landscape mode, the M5 might also include another camera along the portrait side.
This new design could make FaceTime and selfies work better no matter how the device is held. Face ID already works in any direction, but last year’s M4 iPad Pro front camera placement got mixed feedback. Some users didn’t like how the camera looked during vertical video calls. Adding two front cameras would likely fix that and make things easier to use.
Part of a modest 2025 refresh
Adding two front cameras to the M5 iPad Pro is expected to be a major highlight in what insiders call a “modest update.” In 2024, Apple released the M4 iPad Pro with big changes like a thinner body and the first-ever OLED screen in an iPad.
Unlike major past updates, the M5 iPad Pro is expected to bring small changes like the new Apple M5 chip and better cameras. No major redesign or screen upgrade has been reported, meaning Apple may just be improving what’s already there instead of making something entirely new.
Possible launch timeline
Apple supply chain expert Ming-Chi Kuo says mass production of the M5 iPad Pro will start in late 2025. But based on Apple’s usual release schedule, the device could launch around September or October, keeping with the 18-month refresh pattern for iPad Pro models.
Although Apple hasn’t officially said anything yet, regular reports from trusted sources suggest that the M5 iPad Pro with two front cameras is likely part of its future plans.
