Smartphones are becoming saturated just a few years after their initial launch. Each new smartphone launched today is a mere incremental upgrade over its predecessor, and the industry has seen no reliable innovation since a few smartphone iterations. The manufacturers are under enormous pressure to bring something new to the market otherwise they aren’t any better than their counterparts.
While some are experimenting with dual cameras, others are bringing infinity displays and eye scanners. In this case, Meizu chose to launch a smartphone with an additional display on the back. The Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus are otherwise ‘normal’ smartphones; it’s their secondary display that makes them stand out from the large crowd.
Coming to the usual specifications, the Meizu Pro 7 Plus sports a 5.7-inch QHD AMOLED display on the front. The phone is powered by MediaTek Helio X30 10-core processor and has 6GB of RAM along with 128GB of internal storage. The battery capacity of the phone is 3500mAh.
The Meizu Pro 7, on the other hand, is a smaller device with a 5.2-inch FHD AMOLED display on the front. It is powered by a MediaTek P25 processor, has 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and a battery of 3000mAh. Meizu mCharge 4.0 fast charging is available for the Plus model, while the base model settles with mCharge 3.0. Android Nougat based Flyme v6 comes standard on both the devices.
Another thing that is similar in both the devices is the secondary display. Both the phones sport a 2-inch AMOLED display on the back that can be used for checking notifications, control music, and take pictures from the rear camera. More features can be easily added via software updates.
Besides this, the camera is another department that remains unchanged on both the devices. The main camera unit uses a dual-camera setup that has two 12MP Sony IMX386 sensors with an aperture of f/2.0. The primary camera of the two shoots in color and the other one in black and white. The camera on the front is a 16MP sensor. And if you’re wondering, the two phones come with the standard 3.5mm headphone jack.
Meizu has announced that the phones will be available starting August 5 for a price of $430 for the base variant and $530 for the Plus variant.
