Microsoft released the Surface lineup of devices last year that included the Surface Pro devices including the Surface Pro 7 as well as the Surface Pro X. Apart from that, the company also launched Surface Laptop 3. While we know that Surface Pro 7 and Surface Pro X are tablets, Surface Laptop 3 has a touchscreen display in a 13.5-inch form factor. It can also be called the Macbook Air competitor from Microsoft as recently-launched Microsoft Surface Book 3 is the true Macbook Pro competitor from the company.

Now, we are here to tell you about a new issue found on Surface Laptop 3 as per user complaints. Users are complaining that their Surface Laptop 3 displays are cracking spontaneously. As per the report, these users are claiming that their laptop displays are cracking “for no discernible reason”. As per their claims, they are seeing “hairline cracks” on their screens which might become bigger over time. These users also claim that this happens even though they are taking proper care of the device.

Those users will understand why this is happening as there is an explanation from Microsoft now. According to Microsoft, there are reports of “hairline fractures” found “in a very small percentage of cases” due to “hard foreign particle[s].” The best part is that Microsoft has started a free replacement program for people with such cases which means that the company is blaming its own construction for the problem.

On further investigation, these issues are appearing only on those devices which have a platinum construction and not on those that have Alcantara material. This clearly means that the aluminium body of Surface Laptop 3 is scratching the display. We believe that this might also affect the buying decision for a lot of people out there when it comes to choosing between the aluminium or the fabric material. Since these issues are popping up for many, you are better of buying the Alcantara Surface Laptop 3 rather than the Aluminium ones to be on the safer side.
