If you are using a PC powered by Microsoft’s Windows OS, you would be well aware of Microsoft Defender which is the default antivirus solution for everyone using the platform. We believe that this is the most complete solution for you to protect against the viruses that enter your system. This is why most Windows users take advantage of the Windows Defender rather than downloading third-party antivirus apps. However, we know that Microsoft’s Windows Defender app is limited to Windows PCs only.

This means that users on other platforms can’t take advantage of the best free antivirus application out there. But that is soon going to change as Microsoft announces Windows Defender for iOS and Android. This will enable all the Android and iOS users to have the best desktop antivirus for their phones too. Microsoft says that its Windows Defender app for iOS and Android will provide “full command line experience” along with antivirus protection.

While the details regarding this app are not available, Microsoft says that more details will be revealed at the RSA conference next week. The announcement of Windows Defender apps for iOS and Android comes after Microsoft opened up its Defender for macOS last year. Although the Defender for macOS is currently available as a public preview, we are sure that it will be released to the public soon.

Also, Microsoft has renamed its Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection to Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection for users on different platforms. While Microsoft’s task will be easier on Android, it will be interesting to see how the app works on iOS. Because Apple does not allow third-party apps to scan for malware across an iPhone or iPad. Along with iOS and Android, Microsoft’s Defender will be available on Linux too which shows that Microsoft is clearly wanting people to use its antivirus app across every platform.
