Earlier this month, Microsoft held a hardware event showcasing new tech in the market along with the sixth major update for Windows 10 aka October 2018 update. Well, the update was rolled out but in segments before a public release on October 9, however, Microsoft has pulled out the update due to errors encountered by several users that occurred after updating the system with the October 2018 patch.
According to the official statement from Microsoft, early users who installed the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) discovered that some of their files including user profiles, documents, photos among other files went missing after they updated their systems. Microsoft investigated the isolated reports posted by users before coming to the conclusion and thereby, halting the October 9 public release.
Microsoft has asked the users who had received either the notification or might have manually downloaded the update, not to install it. As per the GSMArena, the probability of losing data by its user is just 0.1% but considering the size of user base Microsoft has, these numbers can run in thousands of machines affected with the issue. Today’s tech laymen has it much easier than yesteryear, that much is for sure.
As per what we know till now, Windows 10 October 2018 update skipped Release Preview ring which is a base of early users who get to test public builds before the updates could go live. Further, the error was experienced by internal members as well. Thus, Microsoft pulled the update as of now until the problem is sorted.
