Now, we know that companies are dedicated to environmental causes as well and they try their best to reduce their carbon emissions as much as possible. Last year, Samsung released a TV remote that was powered by solar energy for its 2021 TVs.
But we can all see the problem with solar-powered TV remotes which is that you need to keep them outdoors for them to stay charged. This year too, Samsung has come up with the latest version of its Eco TV remote.
And this time, Samsung has worked out something even better to keep the TV remote charged. With the latest version of the Eco TV remote, Samsung has integrated RF harvesting capabilities in it. This means that the remote will get charged by just using the router’s radio waves and converting them into energy.
But it is also worth noting that the radio waves from your router are not much and they only work for low-power devices such as a TV remote. Not only that, you can charge the latest Eco TV remote with both outdoor and indoor light.
On top of that, you can charge this remote with a USB Type-C port as well. You would think about how big a change it would make to discard AAA batteries from the remote and use solar power. Well, Samsung estimates that this move could avoid “99 million discarded batteries over the course of seven years”.
It is also worth noting that this is not the only idea that Samsung has come up with to charge their TV remotes. The company says that they also explored the idea of charging their remote via “harnessing the kinetic energy that’s created when the remote is shaken” and “using the vibrational energy that’s created when the microphone picks up sounds.”
