A reiterated Nintendo Switch is scheduled to launch on October 8 with an OLED display slapped on it. Turns out there are quite a few rumors about a 4K upgrade as well and the recent Bloomberg report further adds gravitas to it. According to the publisher, game developers have been working on games that support 4K graphics thanks to the Nintendo Switch Developer’s Kit.
The report further adds that at least 11 game developers, including both big and small studios such as Zynga, already have a 4K Nintendo Switch Developer’s Kit. The kit is usually what allows game developers to prepare the game for any console and in this case, it is for Switch’s 4K upgrade. However, Nintendo has so far tagged Bloomberg’s report as inaccurate but failed to provide any additional information about the same.
In May 2021, Bloomberg ran a story according to which, a Nintendo Switch with 4K resolution was teased to arrive in October. However, due to many reasons including component shortages amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Nintendo has to push the plan and resort to an OLED upgrade. However, the console maker furnished the developer’s kit to 11 game studios before it settled for an OLED model for October’s release.
The developer’s kit that I am talking about is usually handed out to game developers well in advance of its projected launch. Apart from some extra memory and ports, everything is almost the same as what a customer would get once the console is out.
Anyways, Nintendo says that the 4K Switch upgrade is slated to arrive no early than 2022. Also, developers have mentioned that their 4K Switch games will not be ready before the second half of 2022 as well. Thus, we will have to wait for some time to get news about the Nintendo Switch 4K and game titles that will follow.
