Nothing has officially unveiled its new software update, Nothing OS 4.0, which was teased during the Nothing Phone (3) launch. The company says the update aims to improve its human-centric mobile experience with a cleaner interface and new features. An open beta program will soon be available for users to test the software, which will also offer a preview of Android 16.
Refined design and interface improvements
According to Nothing, the new update focuses on clear visuals and ease of use. The update brings redesigned lock screen clocks, a cleaner Quick Settings panel, and an improved Always-On Display (AOD). These changes are meant to reduce clutter and create a more unified interface that matches Nothing’s simple hardware design.
The update also adds an Extra Dark Mode with deeper tones. This is meant to reduce eye strain and save battery on phones with OLED screens.

Nothing OS 4 availability and device support
Nothing confirmed that the Nothing OS 4 open beta will be available soon. However, the company also stated that the Nothing Phone (1) will not receive the update. The device has already gotten its three promised major software updates, but it will continue to receive security updates until 2026.
