A little while ago Google released a new maintenance release of Android, called Android 5.1. And Nvidia already started the roll out of the Android 5.1 update to their Shield Tablet, for both the LTE and WiFi versions.
The update is called: Shield Tablet Software Upgrade 3.0, it is around 200MB, and it will bring your device to the latest Android version. The description is the typically ‘Performance enhancements and bug fixes’, and the full notification is as follows:
- Upgrade Android Operating System to version 5.1
- Improved performance and responsiveness.
- Enhanced security, including support for Android for Work.
- Improved quick-settings menu, profile management etc.
- Improved display performance
- Enabled Global Tone Mapping feature. This feature can be toggled by the user.
- New firmware update for SHIELD controller
- Improved pairing experience and other optimizations.
- Please note: You can update the SHIELD controller over WiFi. Look out for a notification on your SHIELD tablet.
If we’re looking at all the improvements we think that the best improvements is that the performance bumps of the camera and the display are fixed. The camera on the Nvidia Shield wasn’t bad, but improvements are always welcome. Online I saw some websites saying that it had fairly poor color reproduction, the latest update brings the new Tone Mapping feature. And we hope that it can help the 1920X1200 display come to life.
If the update didn’t arrive on your Nvidia Shield Tablet, it starting rolling out yesterday and it may take half way into next week to get to everyone. And, as always there is someone who has the image files for you. This time it was XDA member gavin-phelan.
