The OnePlus 12 is expected to arrive in a few weeks in China and early next year, we should get our hands on the flagship phone globally. For now, We just got our hands on a few key specs that the upcoming flagship will bring onboard including a BOE-made Oriental Screen display, faster USB 3.2 support, and a better periscope lens. Here’s the story that you must read.
OnePlus 12 gets BOE-made LTPO OLED panels
BOE, OnePlus, and Oppo held a joint conference on October 24 to announce new displays that will power both the OnePlus 12 and the OnePlus Ace 3 (China). Dubbed Oriental Screen, these are LTPO OLED panels with a resolution of 1440x3168px and 1240x2772px with a peak brightness of 2,600 nits. The certification panel at DisplayMate has already awarded Oriental Screen with A+ certification for color accuracy and exceptional brightness.
BOE developed a display that consumes 13% less power than predecessors, has high-frequency PWM dimming, and lasts twice as long as OLED displays from competitors. The displays are paired with single-pixel calibrating technology where each sub-pixel is independently calibrated to gain more accurate colors.
OnePlus 12 CAD-based renders & leaked specs
Leakster OnLeaks showcased the latest CAD-based renders for the OnePlus 12 showing the phone from all angles. The chrome-based styling on the rear camera setup is gone and instead, we have a triple rear camera assembly onboard a circular camera bump attached to the side of the frame.
According to the reports, the OnePlus 12 will use a high-quality 64MP periscope lens with 3x zoom so you can expect a better output quality. A mysterious component can be spotted on the rear camera assembly although it remains to be seen exactly what it is for.
Next up, we have a sandstone finish back panel that looks pretty flamboyant against the foredrop of a glass-clad camera assembly.
The OnePlus 11 had data transfer speeds maxing at 480Mbps which is slow, I know. With the next-gen OnePlus 12 in the works, OnePlus is already working on upping the tech to USB 3.2 over USB-C port that gets it lighting fast transfer speeds of 5-10Gbps.
OnePlus has been shunning away from wireless charging tech for years now. Its OnePlus 9 Pro in 2021 was the last to get wireless charging support and the tech remained elusive with a INR 1,39,999 OnePlus Open. However, things are likely to change as the OnePlus 12 is expected to get a whopping 50W wireless charging tech using AIRVOOC technology.
OnePlus 12 Rumored Specifications
OnePlus 12 will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC under the hood. There’s 16/24GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage at the least. We have a 5,400mAh battery under the hood paired with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging tech. A 6.82” LTPO AMOLED QHD+ screen with 120Hz likely from BOE (as aforementioned) will compete with the likes of other flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (S24 Ultra) and iPhone 15 Pro series.
