After a lot of leaks and speculations, OnePlus announced its OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro smartphones on April 14. Along with these two smartphones, rumors also insisted on a third smartphone — OnePlus Z. According to the reports OnePlus Z is supposed to launch alongside the OnePlus 8 series of smartphones but ultimately didn’t. Recently, tipster Max J has posted an image on Twitter which shows a device with the letter ‘Z’ in the middle of the display and with July 2020 written on either side confirming that OnePlus Z is not just a leak! However, today we have an exclusive leak for you: OnePlus Z hands-on photo showing flat screen.
The above image comes to us from a seemingly accurate source (of course being sarcastic) that provided us with the OnePlus 8 Pro hands-on photo and OnePlus 7 Pro hands-on photo which have been very much correct in the past. However, that said, all leaks should be taken with a grain of salt. By looking at the image we can clearly understand that the OnePlus Z is going to be a flat-screened display unlike the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. It is also clear that this device is going to boast an in-display fingerprint sensor and also comes with an Optic AMOLED display. The punch-hole camera notch is moved to the center of the display here making it the first OnePlus device with a centre punch-hold display.

Previous leaks also suggested that OnePlus Z could be the first non-Snapdragon device from the company. OnePlus Z is speculated to arrive with MediaTek Dimensity 1000L SoC with 5G support out of the box. The device will be made available with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage to choose from. Although the image above doesn’t reveal the back of the device, the previous renders and live images showed a triple rear camera arrangement with the 2020-styled rectangular array.
On the verge of July launch, it remains to be seen how will this affect the OnePlus 8 ‘T’ series that consistently happens in the second half of the year. In a way, OnePlus’ approach is somewhat similar to what Apple has done with its latest iPhone SE. Some of the speculations also suggest that the device could be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 which features an integrated 5G modem just like the MediaTek Dimensity 1000L.
As for the specifications, OnePlus Z expected to feature a 6.4-inch Optic AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. The display refresh rate here is 90 Hz and comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor. The display will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. Underneath the hood, as mentioned earlier, the device is expected to come with MediaTek Dimensity 1000L SoC coupled with 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storages to choose from. For optic duties, the device is expected to launch with the triple rear camera setup with 48 MP + 16 MP + 12 MP camera. The device runs Android 10 with Oxygen OS skin on top and will be powered by a 4000 mAh battery. If OnePlus could manage to fit all this around 30,000 INR, this device could be the flagship killer of the year.
