OnePlus has been teasing its upcoming device, OnePlus Nord, very extensively for the past few days. It is almost also confirmed that this new series from the company could possibly become a sub-brand in the future. Now, after a lot of rumors and speculations, OnePlus has finally announced the launch date of its most anticipated mid-range device. The company has today confirmed that the Nord will be launched on July 21 where viewers can watch through an AR event.
OnePlus said that the Nord will be an “affordable” device compared to its recent flagships, and the device is due for release in India and Europe. With the OnePlus Nord, the company could rewind back to their original claims “flagship-killer” and “value-for-money” devices, as over the last two to three years, the company has centered themselves in quartering innovative and compelling features on their devices and comparing themselves with the likes of mainstream brands, instead of worrying about the prices. Along with the launch date announcement, the company has also released the second part of its documentary series.
On a similar note, you will be able to watch the launch event in Augmented Reality on July 21 at 3 PM IST and 10 AM EST. To watch the event, you will have to download the “Nord Launch” application from Play Store or the App Store, depending on the device you use. OnePlus is also making the physical invitations to the launch event, which it says will give the viewers a “unique hands-on experience” of the Nord in AR. Although OnePlus did not confirm how to receive the physical invitations, these invitations will contain a QR code that should be scanned to access the AR experience. Nailing the online launch events is now entirely new to OnePlus, as we have previously experienced the Virtual Reality launch event for the OnePlus 2, back in 2015. The AR Nord Launch app itself is very interesting, where you will be able to create an avatar for yourselves.

“OnePlus Nord represents a new beginning for the OnePlus, giving us an opportunity to share our technology with more people around the world. For this launch, we want everyone to sit back, relax, and experience our new phone for the first time in the comfort of their living room. We feel that introducing Nord in a more personal and intimate way perfectly reflects our ambition to make the OnePlus experience more accessible to users” – Paul Yu, Head of OnePlus Nord.
Although the launch event is a few weeks away, we still have a pretty good idea of what OnePlus is hiding under its sleeve with the OnePlus Nord, thanks to a combination of official announcements and unofficial leaks. In fact, we (True-Tech) were the first ones to confirm the existence of the Nord, with a design for a so-called upcoming OnePlus flagship including the schematics for OnePlus 8-series of devices on November 19, 2019. OnePlus has previously confirmed that the device will be powered by a Snapdragon 765G SoC and the device will cost less than $500.
Previous reports also suggest that the Nord will feature a 6.55-inch OLED display with a Full HD+ resolution and 90Hz display refresh rate. The Snapdragon 765G SoC here is coupled with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of onboard storage. All this will be backed by a 4,300 mAh battery and with 30W fast charging support.
