Oppo doesn’t fail to surprise the masses with its new and evolving technologies revolving around smartphones. In 2013, we saw Oppo N1 with a rotating camera. Five years later, Oppo introduced Find X with slide-out cameras that got rid of the annoying notches. This year, Oppo has redefined the boundaries of technology with its Oppo X 2021 rollable concept phone.
Oppo introduced the Oppo X 2021 at the Oppo INNO Day Event 2020 which is a one-of-a-kind rollable smartphone. It has a variable screen size of 6.7-inch and 7.4-inch diagonally. The phone remains at 6.7-inch when retracted but once you start rolling it outwards, you get a whopping 7.4-inch display out-of-the-blue. The Oppo R&D team worked hard developing three proprietary technologies behind Oppo X 2021.
First, the Warp Track is a high-strength screen laminate that forms the part of the display and it is placed under the display with a thickness of just 0.1mm at its thinnest point. Oppo hasn’t revealed it all about what the display is made up of but the outer part is plastic according to the reports.
Oppo has used its latest Roll Motor Powertrain where two motors located on the upper and lower part of the display manage to roll out and retract the display without generating any crease which is one of the biggest problems with foldable phones nowadays. Apparently, the motors distribute force on the display and the frame to properly extend and retract it as and when needed.
The third proprietary technology used is a 2-in-1 plate design where the phone has a fixed frame that supports the display. A moving frame is placed on top of the fixed one that does the well-oiled motion without any hassle. This entire setup allows users to get variable screen sizes as and when needed which enhances the user experience to a great extent.
Needless to say, the Oppo X 2021 is likely a concept phone and might not make it to the market anything soon. There are no current plans as of now although some of its technologies might be used in other smartphones from Oppo.
