Just another nice day with plenty of smartphones to arrive later this week and bingo, Oppo silently launched two of its newest smartphones. I am talking about the new Oppo A74 4G and A74 5G which are now available for sale in Philippines, Thailand, and Cambodia with more countries to join the wagon soon.
Talking about the vanilla version i.e. Oppo A74 4G, the device packs in a giant-sized 6.43-inch AMOLED panel with a 1080p+ resolution. The device arrives with a 60Hz refresh rate as standard although it can jump its touch sampling rate from 135Hz to 180Hz thanks to a dedicated gaming mode.
The display mounted on the 4G variant is 100 percent sRGB and 92 percent DCI-P3 coverage whereas the one mounted on the 5G variant is exactly the same but with 100 percent DCI-P3 coverage. The Oppo A74 5G has a max refresh rate of 90Hz and a 180Hz touch sampling rate which outruns the 4G variant at any time.
Battery mounted on both the devices is a huge 5,000 mAh humongous piece of Li-Po backed by a 33W fast charging support for the 4G variant. It is advertised to take 72 minutes of time to charge fully. Certainly one of the biggest downgrades is the 18W fast charging support on the 5G variant. No doubt 18W is very slow for a battery this size so take it around 2 hours to charge fully.
The vanilla Oppo A74 4G is powered by a Snapdragon 662 SoC with 6/128GB storage while the 5G variant is packed with the new Snapdragon 480 SoC with 6/128GB storage with download speeds of up to 2.1Gbps. Both the models run on the latest ColorOS 11.1 based on Android 11 out-of-the-box.
The topics on-board both the smartphones are identical where the 4G variant sports a triple camera setup at the back arranged in a rectangular camera bump. The primary camera on-board is a 48MP sensor with 2MP depth and 2MP macro sensor while the front houses a 16MP camera. The 5G variant has all the sensors mentioned above plus a 8MP ultrawide snapper at the back and combines to create a quad-camera setup.
There isn’t much difference when it comes to the specifications on both the Oppo A74 4G and its 5G variant. Both have fingerprint scanners although the 4G variant has an under-the-display FPS while the 5G variant is downgraded to a side-mounted FPS. Both the models have Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band with Wi-Fi hotspot. The Bluetooth on 4G variant is v5.0 with LE, A2DP, and aptX while the 5G variant gets Bluetooth v5.1 with aptX HD as well as LE and A2DP.
Both the models have USB Type-C 2.0 port, there’s no infrared and the 5G variant has NFC while the 4G cuts back on it. Other similarities are with the Dual SIM support, a memory card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a few things here and there.
Talking about the pricing and availability, the Oppo A74 4G is available at a price tag of PHP 12,000 in Philippines which is around $255. The device is up for pre-orders and the shipping commences in the next 7 days. It is available on Lazada and Shopee but also offline stores. The 5G variant available in Thailand has a price tag of BH 9,000 or $285 and will be available via online channel.
