Oppo, in the month of March, announced their camera focused smartphone, Oppo R15 and Oppo R15 Pro, under the R family. Both the smartphone are premium mid-rangers offering decent specifications and great sets of cameras. It was previously speculated that the brand will announce Oppo R15s and Oppo R15s Pro as their successor. A Chinese leakster recently which goes by the name Kumamoto Technology recently claimed that the brand is instead working on Oppo R17 as a successor.
Even the brand itself has started teasing the device itself. The leakster did share an image of Oppo sponsored media event on the Weibo which teases the upcoming smartphone. If you see the image carefully, you can see a big R17 banner on the right-hand side. Looking at the image, it is pretty clear the R17 is coming instead of R15s as the successor of previously launched Oppo R15.
The same leakster previously claimed that two major Chinese brand Oppo and Vivo will be unveiling devices with massive 10GB of RAM. It seems like the upcoming Oppo R17 will be the one to follow the suit. It is worth noting that the brand hasn’t really launched a device with 8GB of RAM except Oppo Find X.
Oppo R17 appears on TENAA, shows no fingerprint sensor at all
Adding further to the story, the same device today made its very first appearance on TENAA, confirming its presence ultimately. This report is emerging from a tech publication which goes by the name 91Mobiles.
As per the TENAA document listing, Oppo R17 is spotted with a unique colour scheme and a dual camera setup at the back. Although the leaked render images don’t really give us anything solid, it does reveal one aspect of the device. If you look at the image carefully, you’ll notice that there is no fingerprint sensor at all. This means that the brand might integrate in-display fingerprint sensor or might go ahead with the face unlock support only, as they did with the Find X. Looking at the front, we can hardly decide whether it will sport all-display screen or tiny bezels with a narrow notch on top.
The TENAA listing, on the other hand, did reveal some key specifications of the device. The alleged Oppo R17 appears with the model number PBCM00 and PBCT00 which will be the two different storage variants most likely. As per the listing, the device will come with a large 6.3-inch display and a 3,415 mAh battery packed inside. The phone measures 156.7 x 74 x 7.9mm while the Android version is unspecified as of now. Just like the previous Oppo R15 devices, you can expect a great improvement in the camera department. Oppo R17 will also be on the premium mid-range segment.
