Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 is here. Samsung released three models under the Tab S8 series offering the latest iteration of flagship processor, a 120Hz OLED panel along with a ginormous battery, and Android 12-powered OneUI 4.1 out-of-the-box. Here’s everything you need to know about the trio.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series: Display
The display tech on the trio is a bit different in terms of the size the tech used. The vanilla variant dubbed as Galaxy Tab S8 offers an 11-inch WQXGA LTPS TFT with a 276ppi density. You get a 120Hz refresh rate with the device. The Galaxy Tab S8+ arrives with a 12.4-inch WQXGA+ Super AMOLED panel boosting a 266ppi density.
Finally, the top-of-the-line Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra offers a 14.6-inch WQXGA+ Super AMOLED panel with 240ppi density. Note that all the models have a 120Hz refresh rate onboard.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Series: Design
Apparently, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra design appears to be inspired by last year’s MacBooks thanks to the notched display. Both vanilla and plus have resorted to a no-notch look. The trio has a magnetic strip just below the vertically stacked rear camera bump where you can keep your S Pen for charging and handy when needed.
Since you will be paying a premium amount for any of the Tab S8 models, Samsung hasn’t compromised with the build quality so you still get a premium construction onboard.
Galaxy Tab S8 is undoubtedly the shortest and lightest model in the Tab S8 series. It measures 165.3×253.8×6.3mm with 503 grams weight on its Wi-Fi and 507 grams on its 5G variant. The Galaxy Tab S8+ is slightly heavy at 567 and 572 grams respectively. However, thanks to the larger display, the dimensions onboard are 185.0×285.0x5.7mm which makes it way slimmer than the vanilla variant.
Finally, Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra weights 726 and 728 grams on its Wi-Fi and 5G variants respectively. The size is colossal at 208.6×326.4×5.5mm and surprisingly, it is thinner than the Plus variant.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Series: Hardware & Software
Unlike the Galaxy S22 series, the Galaxy Tab S8 series will arrive with a single Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 64-bit octa-core processor. Fabbed on a 4nm node, the processor has a tri-cluster arrangement offering enhanced CPU and GPU performance compared to its predecessors. It has an Adreno 730 GPU onboard.
Moving on, both Galaxy Tab S8 and Tab S8+ arrives with 8GB/12GB LPDDR5 RAM, 128GB/256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. On the contrary, Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra has 8/12/16GB LPDDR5 RAM variants along with 128/256/512GB of internal UFS 3.1 storage. The duo has storage expandability at up to 1TB so that’s something you would wanna try.
The last piece of the puzzle would be the software. Here, the trio runs on Android 12-based OneUI 4.1 out-of-the-box.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Series: Camera
The camera department on the Galaxy Tab S8 series is straight forwards. The rear camera on the trio remains unchanged with a dual 13MP AF primary plus 6MP ultra-wide secondary snapper. The front is a bit different. Talking about Galaxy Tab S8 and S8+, both the tablets have a single 12MP ultra-wide snapper that’s embedded within the bezels.
However, Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra has opted for a notch that houses not one but two cameras i.e. a 12MP wide-angle, and a 12MP ultra-wide dual snapper. No doubt this will be something the Tab S8 series will have as differences among other specs.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Series: Battery
Samsung Galaxy Tabs have always picked up larger battery sizes and these series ain’t different. There’s an 8,000 mAh battery pack onboard Galaxy Tab S8 while the S8+ gets a 10,090mAh while the S8 Ultra gets a high-caliber 11,200mAh battery onboard. The trio sports up to 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0 tech onboard and the charging time always differs by a lot given the sizes and the differences between the models.
Chargers aren’t included in the box so you will have to pick it up yourself.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Series: 5G and Other Tech
5G is onboard so as long as you are in a 5G enabled location, you will get lightning-fast 5G network speeds. Apart from that, there’s LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth v5.2, GPS, and a lot more.
When it comes to security, apart from facial recognition, you get a side-mounted fingerprint scanner with the vanilla version. The other two variants get an under-the-display fingerprint scanner instead. Samsung has also included Samsung Knox with the trio.
Rock on to the music with its Quad Stereo Speakers tuned by AKG and Dolby Atmos.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Series: Pricing and Availability
When you decide to pick up the tablet, you will get a few color choices for some models. I am talking about Galaxy Tab S8 and S8+ that now have Pink Gold, Silver, and Graphite as options. On the other hand, Tab S8 Ultra gets Graphite as the sole color option.
You will get the S Pen in the box while all other accessories are sold separately. This includes a Strap Cover, Note View Cover, Protective Standing Cover, Book over Keyboard, Book Cover, and Book Cover Keyboard Slim.
