Samsung foldable legacy continues as the company has just taken the wraps off its third installment of the Galaxy Z Fold device. Just like last year, the Fold3 was launched at the Galaxy Unpacked 2021 event alongside the Galaxy Flip3, Galaxy Note 21 series, Galaxy Watch 4, and also new Galaxy Buds2. With the Galaxy Z Fold2 last year, Samsung has proved the concept. The South Korean giant has listened to consumers and has fixed every single flaw that plagued its initial Fold. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G: Pricing and Availability

It seems that this year, Samsung has reduced the pricing for foldable devices as compared to the past couple launches. They claim to “break the barrier” with the new pricing this year. The Galaxy Z Fold3 5G will be priced at US$1,799.99 in the United States, which is equivalent to Rs. 1,34,000~. The Galaxy Z Fold3 5G will be available starting August 27, 2021 in select markets and will slowly expand into others.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 boasts a 6.2-inch HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display with a resolution of 2268 x 832 pixels for the Cover Screen (Exterior Screen). The aspect ratio of this display is 24.5:9 and has a pixel density of 387ppi. The display also features a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate which is an upgrade from the 60Hz on the last year’s Fold2. Opening up the cover screen, you will be greeted with a 7.6-inch main screen which QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display with an aspect ratio of 22.5:18 and a resolution of 2208 x 1768 pixels. The pixel density of the main screen is 374ppi which also supports a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It is worth noting that the Fold3 supports S Pen.

As for the dimensions, when folded the Fold3 measures 67.1 x 158.2 x 16.0mm – 14.4mm. When unfolded the numbers stand at 128.1 x 158.2 x 6.4mm. The device weighs 271 grams, which is lesser than the Fold2 that weighs around 282 grams. Samsung claims that the Fold3 is their strongest device with an Armor Aluminum design. The device is completely protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and is the first foldable to launch with IPX8 water resistance.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. This high-end SoC integrates one Prime Core based on an ARM Cortex-X1 architecture which is clocked at 2.84 GHz. Three performance cores are based on the A78 clocked at 2.2 GHz each. There are four energy-saving cores that are based on ARM Cortex-A55 clocked at 1.8 GHz. Adreno 660 handles the graphic duties here. The device comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage to choose from. The device runs Android 11 out of the box with One UI skin on top.

That said, let’s talk cameras! The Galaxy Z Fold3 features a triple rear camera setup with a 12MP primary shooter with F/1.8 aperture, Dual Pixel AF, and OIS. The secondary unit is a 12MP ultrawide sensor with an F/2.2 aperture and 1.12um pixel size. The field of view here is 128-degrees. The tertiary is again a 12 MP sensor but a telephoto camera. This telephoto camera features PDAF and Dual OIS (0.5x out and 2x in optical zoom). The sensor’s aperture is F/2.4 and can zoom up to 10x digitally. There is a 10MP selfie camera embedded in a punch-hole display notch on the cover screen whereas there is a 4MP under-display camera on the main screen. All this is powered by a 4400mAh battery.
