The South-Korean multi-national conglomerate, Samsung has never failed to amaze mobile users with the wide range of innovative and attractive handsets that it comes out with. Especially known for its electronics, particularly mobile phones, Samsung may have disappointed people, giving the Samsung Galaxy S6 a ‘non-removable’ battery which didn’t even last very long. However, new research from the company reveals a major breakthrough for the battery life of the mobile, which could in fact almost double the battery life of future devices!
It was the Galaxy-maker, who had figured out how to coat the batteries with graphene, a conducive material that is grown on a silicon carbide substance that can be combined with a lithium battery. The ‘next-generation’ lithium batteries have the ability to last 1.8-1.5 times as long; owing to the layered structure of Samsung’s graphene.
The report also highlights that this new battery technology could even extend beyond smartphones and tablets. The new batteries may also improve electric vehicles, thereby giving a car a longer range (before it needed to be re-charged).
For most of us, though the longer and better battery life for our mobile devices is the important part!
Sadly, however, it could take a few years (or more) before this new technology takes shape from Samsung’s research lab to its smartphone factories. Until that time, we will have to remain happy with the same batteries! The good news is that, there may actually be some incremental improvements’ in the near future!
