We have seen that the design, as well as games of the Sony PlayStation 5, have been revealed which means we now know both Microsoft and Sony’s upcoming gaming consoles coming later this year. It also tells us that while Sony is taking a futuristic approach with its design, Microsoft is going the utilitarian way. Both of these consoles, however, are expected to be similarly powerful in terms of performance. Now that Sony has revealed the design of its console, they might have also gauged the demand for PS5.

Because a new report from Bloomberg claims that Sony has already ramped up its production of PlayStation 5 consoles. Clearly, Sony is expecting higher demand than expected and the output is ramped up only now suggests that it is due to the design and features. As per the report, Sony has ramped up production to meet a target of 10 million units of the PS5 by the end of this year.

The report mentions that Sony is “roughly doubling” its production capacity for the PlayStation 5 which is in anticipation of huge demand. As per Bloomberg, Sony also predicts that Coronavirus pandemic will boost demand for gaming so they see their consoles selling well in the market. It is also said that the company has even informed “assembly partners and suppliers it’s radically increasing orders for its next-generation console”.

One big reason why Sony has realized the potential sales of its gaming console due to the pandemic also has to do with the second wave of a surge in COVID-19 cases across the world. We have seen that countries like the US where the cases were on a decline have now shown an upward trajectory once again which is why lockdown measures have been put in place. This is the main reason Sony believes will keep more people at home for longer and make them buy the latest gaming console.

Of course, we need to mention that Sony has not yet announced the pricing of its PS5 console which will be a deciding factor in how many people actually get the console because just the pandemic reasoning is not enough. It is also a fact that while Sony has ramped up manufacturing, shipping is still a concern which means that it might be “unable to put enough” units at launch inside stores.
