There was a time when we were having smartphones being launched from companies such as HTC, Sony, Nokia and even LG. Not only did these companies launch their smartphones regularly, they were also premium offerings and believed to be having better brand value than Apple’s iPhones at that time.
But then, some of these companies just kept falling in the deep end because of not adapting to the changes well. Right now, we know that HTC is not making smartphones anymore. While LG and Nokia are making phones, they are barely doing so and their sales are nowhere near they were a decade ago.
As far as Sony is concerned, we know that the company us much more than just a smartphone maker and is in the same category as Samsung. However, Sont also sells the PlayStation devices that are quite popular in the market. But we do feel that Sony’s focus is not completely on their smartphone department right now.
Having said that, Sony announced its Xperia 1 Mark II or Xperia 1 II earlier this year. This smartphone was said to be coming later this year ad the reason we are talking about it is due to the fact that Sony says this smartphone has the prowess from its mirrorless Mark series digital cameras.
Most of the YouTubers and photographers use the Sony Mark series cameras and if the same technology is in this smartphone, it definitely has to be good. So the company has revealed that the Xperia 1 Mark II will be available in the US from July 24 starting at a whopping $1200.
Talking about the Xperia 1 Mark II, most of the things are standard on this device such as a 60Hz refresh rate panel along with 6.5-inch display size and a taller 21:9 aspect ratio. It comes with a Snapdragon 865 processor, 5G support as well as 4000 mAh battery along with wireless charging which should be expected from such a high-end device.
But the reason we are talking about this phone is due to its camera. On paper, the Sony Xperia 1 Mark II comes with a triple camera of 12MP primary, 12MP wide and a 12MP zoom camera.
However, it has many features that are available on Sony Mark lineup of cameras such as a dedicated camera shutter button as well as a burst mode which can shoot up to 20 fps. You get Photography Pro and Cinematography Pro apps inside the device that lets you control the frame rate, exposure, ISO and more such manual settings.
It must be noted that these manual controls on the Sony Xperia 1 Mark II are even more than what you get on other smartphones with a manual mode. Having said that, we do question the pricing of this phone even with all the bells and whistles it has on the camera front. Because you can get a professional DSLR or a mirrorless camera at this price if someone really wants to take great photos or videos.
Sony does, however, make the deal sweeter for those who will pre-order this device from June 1. Because the company is bundling its Sony WF-1000XM3 noise cancelling earbuds along with the device even though it has a traditional headphone jack as well. The wireless earbuds from Sony can cost you $229 normally so you are getting the phone for less than $1000 which is a somewhat better deal.
