The Swedish luxury vehicle manufacturer, VOLVO has announced that their first all-electric vehicle will enter consumer markets in 2019 and confirmed that the platform could support battery packs up to 100 kWh. This kind of battery could reportedly power the vehicle for over 300 miles, provided that it is pretty energy efficient.
“To enable the cost-effective production of a range of BEVs meeting different requirements, Volvo is developing the Modular Electrification Platform (MEP)—a set of modular building blocks for electrification than will allow Volvo to deliver vehicles ranging between 100 – 450 kW of propulsive power, with battery packs of up to 100 kWh in size.”, reports GreenCarCongress.
VOLVO announced their entry into the electric vehicle platform way back in 2015. But, we haven’t heard much about it from the company the following years, until today. Although we have not much of an idea what will be the company’s first all-electric vehicle, it’s highly probable that it could be based on either the Concept 40.1 (SUV) or the Concept 40.2 (sedan) that they showcased recently, both of which are based on their CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform.
Check out the concepts below.
