Xiaomi is bringing a majority of its products to India including its smart IoT products one by one. Xiaomi has recently launched its Mi Robot Cleaner and other lifestyle products in India. Recently, Xiaomi took it to Twitter by teasing the launch of its new IoT product alongside the Mi 10. According to the teaser, the new Internet of Things (IoT) product by Xiaomi can turn a regular TV into a Smart TV. Xiaomi has released a couple of Mi TV boxes in the past in China and other markets, so a few reports suggest that Xiaomi could possibly launch the Mi TV Box in India targeting the non-Smart TV users.

Xiaomi has been selling its Mi Box in International Markets as a cheaper alternative for Mi Tv products for quite some time now. The release of Mi TV Box makes a lot of sense considering the fact that Xiaomi India never led them to the country. Although the company did not confirm whether they will launch Mi Box 4 SE or Mi Box S, the rumor mill suggests that the company could launch a Mi TV Stick as that can also turn normal TV into Smart TV. According to a few speculations, this could be Xiaomi’s take on Amazon’s Prime TV Stick!

Taking back the story to the Mi TV Box, it is an Android TV box in general that can connect to any TV via HDMI port and convert any TV to Android-powered smart TV. It offers everything that a Mi Smart TV offers which includes the Patchwall UI, pre-installed on-demand media streaming applications, and more. As mentioned earlier, it is still unknown which variant of the Mi TV Box the company is planning to release in the Indian market yet, it could either be the Mi Box 4 SE or Mi Box S 4K as these are among the most recent ones to launch outside of India.

Mi Box 4 SE and Mi Box S 4K Specifications

Mi Box S is the successor to the original Mi Box. Mi Box S supports 4K resolution given that the connected TV support 4K out of the box. Mi TV Box S runs Android TV OS based on Android 8.1 Oreo and is priced at $59 (roughly 4,500 INR). Underneath the hood, the device is powered by Quad-Core Cortex A-53 CPU coupled with 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of onboard storage. The Mi Box S runs 4K footage at 60 frames per second which is quite impressive considering that the budget Mi TVs released in India only supports up to 1080p. Additionally, there is support for Dolby DTS audio as well.

Mi Box 4 SE is technically an underpowered version of Mi Box S. It can stream the content with a maximum resolution of 1080p contrasting the 4K support found on Box S. Underneath the hood, the device is powered by Quad-Core Cortex A-53 CPU coupled with 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of onboard storage. Both the devices run Patchwall UI with support for DTH connection and users can download applications and extra services from the Play Store. As mentioned earlier, at this time we are clearly unaware of what Xiaomi is hiding under its sleeve. For more Xiaomi IoT product coverage, stay tuned with us!
