OnePlus is one of the finest smartphone makers out there and it has released plenty of models over the past few years. The Chinese tech giant offers a robust portfolio of smartphones, TVs, and accessories. OnePlus watch has been in development for years now but was never announced. Like every year, the OnePlus Watch has surfaced in leaks and rumored to be released alongside the OnePlus 8 series but that never happened. Fans thought that the launch is imminent when the straps of the Cyberpunk 2077 limited edition appeared online, but the company decided to postpone the launch. Last year, OnePlus has revealed that the Watch will be released in the first quarter of this year.

As most of you already know, the OnePlus is all set to unveil its next generation of flagship devices during a virtual event scheduled on March 23. While the fandom and media waiting for the launch of the OnePlus 9 series, the company has surprised us with a teaser saying that fans will get what they’ve been asking for. Fans have been asking and waiting for the company to get the wraps off its smartwatch which nearly came to fruition years ago but was put back for various reasons. As mentioned earlier, rumors of an OnePlus Watch have been swirling for months now and the company itself has claimed to be working on a smartwatch. The company has sent engineering samples to a few telecom agencies. But the device has remained unreleased for some unknown reasons.
Coming back to the teaser, although it was nowhere mentioned the word “smartwatch” explicitly, taking a look at the image in the background makes it clear that the teaser is about the OnePlus Watch after all. Previous reports suggested that OnePlus is also reportedly working closely with Google, to make improvements on Wear OS. Lau made it clear that the OnePlus Watch and Wear OS projects are completely unrelated. OnePlus wants a watch that should be a part of its IoT ecosystem so that it communicates with TV, phone, and various other smart devices. So, deep-level integration is required.
Lau further added that “Wear OS definitely has room to improve. What we’re trying to do is work with Google to try to improve the connectivity between the Wear OS ecosystem, Android TV, and smartphones to create this ability for better device interoperability across the ecosystems.” Taking the story forward to leaks and rumors, there is literally no leaks around the OnePlus Watch. The only information that we have is from Max J on Twitter who has posted a cryptic teaser about the smartwatch having a round dial instead of a square dial like the Apple Watch or the Oppo Watch. While everyone is referring to it as the OnePlus Watch, there has been no confirmation from the company that’s the name for the upcoming smartwatch.
BIS filing suggests that there could be two variants of the OnePlus Watch. While we are not sure about the differences between both of them, but, we expect different sizes whereas the big variant could be referred to with the “Pro” moniker. Typical OnePlus’ naming. At this point, we are not sure what to expect from the upcoming OnePlus Watch. But, it is clear that the company has put some serious efforts in developing the interface based on Android Wear OS.
