Fenix, one of the top third-party Twitter app for Android, has just joined the list of apps that hit Twitter’s ridiculous token limit rule. The app has now been removed from the Google Play Store, new users won’t be able to sign up using Fenix if they have never used it before.

Twitter’s “token limit”:

You see – a few years ago, Twitter realized that third-party apps were gaining popularity for the variety of features they had to offer which was not included in the original Twitter app and thus reducing traffic. Therefore, Twitter decided to implement a 100,000 user limit for app developers. In brief, once a third-party app receives more than 100,000 registrations, no more users would be allowed to sign up.

Falcon Pro (2013) and Carbon (2014) were one of the first apps that hit the Twitter token limit.

What about current users? Fenix can still be accessed through the “My apps & games” section. However, it is unclear whether the developer will continue to provide support for the app and if new updates will be released.

If you’ve never tried Fenix – unfortunately, it’s too late. However, there are still a lot of alternative Twitter app on the market, like Talon or HootSuite.

Is implementing “user limit” the right move by Twitter? Should Twitter be focusing on making it’s own app better instead? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
