- Apple code confirms the next-generation Vision Pro will feature the advanced M5 chip.
- No major design changes expected, aside from a redesigned strap for better comfort.
- Launch could come in late 2025, in line with Apple’s typical product refresh timeline.
Apple is preparing a next-generation version of its Vision Pro headset powered by the upcoming M5 chip, according to newly discovered code references. The finding appears to confirm earlier predictions by some industry analysts and settles ongoing debate over which processor the new device will feature.
Apple source code confirms Vision Pro with M5 chip upgrade
Evidence of the upgrade was uncovered by MacRumors’ contributor Aaron Perris, who found references to an M5-equipped Vision Pro within Apple’s own software code. The discovery supports a forecast made by well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who previously said the company’s second-generation headset would transition to the M5 chip.
In contrast, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had suggested that Apple might reuse the M4 processor, the same chip currently powering the latest MacBook Air and iPad Pro, rather than introduce a new generation of silicon for the headset. The code leak now strongly points toward the M5 being at the heart of the next Vision Pro.
Minimal design changes expected
While the internal chip is expected to get a major upgrade, the Vision Pro’s exterior design will likely stay mostly the same. The main physical change being considered is a new strap design to make it more comfortable for long use.
This shows Apple is focusing more on boosting speed, battery life, and AR performance rather than making big design changes for the second-generation model.

Possible launch timeline
Industry insiders say Apple could release the Vision Pro with the new M5 chip in late 2025, though there’s no official confirmation yet. If this timeline is accurate, the launch would match Apple’s usual hardware refresh schedule and might arrive alongside other major product updates.
