YouTube Recap 2025 has officially launched, initiating a new year-end feature that offers users a personalized look back at their viewing habits throughout the year. The feature marks YouTube’s first globally available annual recap, following user requests for a detailed breakdown of watch history similar to popular music streaming wrap-ups.
Personalized cards with viewing insights
Each user’s Recap includes up to 12 visual cards that summarize their year on YouTube. These cards spotlight the channels they watched most often and the topics that drew their interest. They also track how viewing habits shifted month by month and add a personality profile that reflects the kind of content the user usually prefers.
For users who spend a lot of time with music on YouTube and YouTube Music, the Recap adds an extra layer. It reveals top artists and songs of the year, along with preferred genres and podcasts, and offers a quick look at global listening trends to show how worldwide music discovery is playing a growing role in viewer behavior.
Built through community research
YouTube developed Recap after extensive testing, collecting input from users across nine feedback rounds and over 50 concept trials. The company says the research revealed clear differences in how people engage with content. These insights led to viewer personality segments such as the Adventurer, Skill Builder, and Creative Spirit.
The most common personality types based on early data are the Sunshiner, Wonder Seeker, and Connector. Meanwhile, the Philosopher and Dreamer profiles emerged less frequently, making them notably rare among viewers.
Panchapakesan said that even niche interests can become important parts of someone’s year, whether they got into custom keyboards, became fans of KATSEYE, or explored collectible toy unboxing. Recap is meant to bring all those changing interests together in one place.
YouTube Recap 2025 availability and global rollout
YouTube Recap 2025 is now live for users in North America, with a global rollout expanding over the week. Viewers can access their Recap from the YouTube homepage or the “You” tab on mobile and desktop. Results can be saved and shared, which allow users a way to revisit and celebrate the standout moments that shaped their year on the platform.
