  • A Bluetooth SIG certification officially revealed Samsung's next flagship foldable as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, ending months of naming speculation.
  • The standard Z Fold8 focuses on being slim and light, while the Ultra targets raw performance with a larger battery, triple cameras, and faster charging.
  • The "Ultra" label raises expectations, and Samsung will need to deliver hardware that holds up against increasingly competitive Chinese foldables.

For the past few months, there has been a lot of confusion around Samsung’s next foldable. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has been at the center of many of these rumors, with reports suggesting Samsung could introduce a completely different naming strategy for its premium foldable lineup. Some reports claimed the company could introduce a completely different naming scheme, while others pointed toward a wider foldable model carrying a new title. Now we finally have a clearer picture.

Why Samsung is choosing the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra branding

A recent Bluetooth certification listing has revealed the official market name as Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, putting an end to many of the earlier naming rumors. The certification reportedly covers several versions of the device, including model numbers SC-56G, SCG39, SM-F976C, SM-F976Q and SM-F976Z. This means the long-discussed Z Fold8 re-name is no longer just speculation.

Earlier leaks mentioned names such as Galaxy Z Wide Fold and Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide. Those names generated attention, but they never really sounded like products Samsung would sell globally. The company already has a strong Ultra brand across its smartphone lineup.

We have seen it with the Galaxy S series and even its smartwatch lineup. From Samsung’s perspective, using “Ultra” on its most expensive foldable probably makes more sense than introducing another naming category. Honestly, this move was somewhat expected.

Different foldables, different priorities

The interesting part is not just the name itself. Reports suggest Samsung could launch foldables with different priorities this year. One version is expected to focus on being thinner and lighter. The premium version, now believed to be the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, may keep the higher-end hardware package.

Current rumors point to a larger 5,000mAh battery, 45W wired charging, and a triple rear camera setup. The standard model could arrive with a smaller 4,800mAh battery and fewer camera sensors. If that information turns out to be accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold8 actually helps customers understand which model sits at the top of the lineup.

The Ultra name brings higher expectations

That said, Samsung still has work to do. Many Chinese foldable phones already offer faster charging speeds, larger battery capacities, and slimmer designs. Calling a device “Ultra” creates expectations. People will naturally compare it with the best foldables currently available.

That’s why the actual hardware matters more than the branding. The certification confirms the name, but the launch event will show whether Samsung has done enough to justify it.

Overall, the latest certification leaves very little doubt about Samsung’s plans. The Galaxy Z Fold8 appears settled, and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra looks set to become the company’s new flagship foldable. The name change itself is not the biggest story.
