Primate Labs has officially launched Geekbench 7, the newest version of its widely used cross-platform benchmarking tool. The new release brings a number of new CPU and GPU workloads to help people achieve what they actually perform on the platform. The firm mentions that the new version balances itself on measuring how devices handle real-world apps and less on synthetic testing.
Geekbench 7 adds new media workloads for modern computing
According to the Geekbench press release, one of the biggest upgrades in Geekbench 7 is a new set of media-based CPU tests. Intead of relying on abstract calculations, the new workloads simulate activities that a number of users perform regularly.

For instance, the benchmark can now measure how efficiently a processor can encode screen-sharing video using the AV1 codec, which is very similar to video conferencing apps. It will also compress music and speech audio with the Opus codec, which is helpful for voice recording and podcast apps. Finally, using OpenAI’s Whisper speech recognition tool, the platform can decode audio and video while generating live captions.
Expanded CPU tests include game physics and image processing
The company behind Geekbench, Primate Labs, has expanded several existing CPU benchmarks. It includes a new Game Physics test, which is built on the Jolt Physics engine. It measures how processors handle physics calculations for modern video games.
The Photo Editor benchmark, on the other hand, now adds a richer set of real-world editing, while the Photo Library workload has gained support for JPEG XL and DNG image formats.
Multi-core scores now better match real applications
Geekbench 7 has transformed how its muti-core benchmark functions. The new version only allows multi-threading for tasks that actually use multiple threads in real apps. Earlier, the platform used to enable running every workload across multiple CPU cores automatically, even if it was not required.
To explain the above statement in simple terms, let me take you by providing an example. Now, the HTML5 Browser workload won’t be a part of the multi-core suite. Web browsing, according to Primate Labs, is typically single-threaded or only slightly threaded.
GPU benchmark shifts toward AI and content creation
Along with the CPU area, Primate Labs did not leave the GPU department behind; they have updated the GPU benchmarks as well by relying strongly on machine learning and creative workloads.
As a result, new AI-focused GPU tests now include face tracking with real-time video effects. It also came with AI image upscaling, which means having super-resolution features in editing apps. Lastly, the platform brings background blur processing for video calls.
Apart from these major upgrades, the platform has also brought significant graphics workloads, including RAW image processing, LUT-based video color grading, path tracing, and fluid simulation.
CUDA support arrives in Geekbench 7
The support for CUDA is marked as one of the significant additions since it was one of the most requested features by Geekbench users.
NVIDIA GPU users can now benchmark their hardware using CUDA along with the APIs supported by Geekbench. It includes OpenCL, Vulkan, and Metal. It allows users to monitor GPU performance using the same API that runs many demanding AI and professional apps.
