KRAFTON has once again made headlines with the PUBG MOBILE LIGHT announcement, a new lighter version of its original PUBG MOBILE battle royale. Despite having a smaller package size and wider compatibility with devices, the LIGHT version will have a similar gaming experience to its original version. The new app will be available to download for free on Android and iOS, with pre-registrations starting on August 25, 2026.

You might be wondering what happened with the previous PUBG Mobile Lite. Well, KRAFTON has not released any statement related to it, but the game has not received official updates or patches in years, which ultimately impacted its servers and players.

According to KRAFTON, PUBG MOBILE LIGHT will bring the core Battle Royale experience, despite being lightweight in size. The game is scheduled to launch later this year, although the exact release date is yet to be announced.

PUBG MOBILE LIGHT pre-registration starts August 25

KRAFTON has confirmed that the pre-registrations for PUBG MOBILE LIGHT will open on August 25, 2026. Those who are interested or have limited resources such as an entry-level phone will be able to register ahead of its official release on Android and iOS devices.

As the name suggests, PUBG MOBILE LIGHT will offer a more accessible way to experience the original PUBG MOBILE, which would make it ideal for players who want a lighter version without compromising the PUBG MOBILE core experience.

Even though the company has confirmed that the upcoming version will be available for free to download, details about its download size, system requirements, or monetization features are expected to be revealed upon its pre-registration.

Players can match with PUBG MOBILE users

In the announcement video, PUBG MOBILE’s producer Rick Li shared one of the most exciting features for PUBG MOBILE LIGHT and its connection with original PUBG MOBILE.

Li said players on the LIGHT version will be able to matchmake with players on the original PUBG MOBILE. It means players on different versions of the game can still team up and play as a duo/squad with friends or recent teammates.

With the cross-version matchmaking, PUBG MOBILE LIGHT and PUBG MOBILE players will be able to share a lobby and play together without any boundaries. Several users had requested the lighter version and specifically this feature, and finally the gap between the lighter version and the original version is resolved.

PUBG MOBILE LIGHT launch date

Rick Li, the producer of PUBG MOBILE, confirmed in the announcement video that PUBG MOBILE LIGHT will launch later this year. However, he did not mention any specific release date yet.

Anyway, more information related to the game’s availability, supported devices, requirements, and other features is expected around the pre-registration timeline and prior to the official launch.

What about BGMI LITE in India?

Following the PUBG MOBILE LIGHT announcement, BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA (BGMI) came into the spotlight and announced that they are not staying back. Indian players will get a lighter version similar to PUBG MOBILE LIGHT. But there’s a catch!

Unlike PUBG MOBILE LIGHT, BGMI is specifically designed for Indian players. Hence, players won’t be able to join the global lobby. Instead, they will be able to join the original BGMI lobby easily and team up with their friends.

However, BGMI LITE will retain the core experience of the original BGMI. Interestingly, players can choose to opt to download maps, voice packs, and other additional packs.
