Today, Honor has officially announced the new Honor 8A through a conference held in China. The smartphone is successor to Honor 7A launched last year, and it benefits from having pretty impressive specs at a very affordable price tag. The Honor 8A borrows many of the new trends, and it carries a ‘Pearl’ notch on top of its display that could spice things up.

The Honor 8A sports a 6.09-inch large screen, producing an HD+ resolution 1560×720 pixels. The phone has a tiny circular notch on the top of its screen that seems to be its main selling point. In addition, it is claimed to having a whopping screen-to-body-ratio of 87%, together with a 19:5:9 aspect ratio.

Moving to the back, the phone shares a great resemblance to Honor 8X with double texture gradient polycarbonate body accompanied by a classic ‘Honor’ branding. The smartphone ditches the fingerprint sensor in favour of ‘Face Unlock’. The device comes with a single lens at the back, sporting a 13MP sensor with F/1.8 large aperture capable of taking clearer photos in dark environment. On the front is an 8MP selfie shooter, supporting smart skin, face-lifting function and auto HDR mode.

The Honor 8A is powered by Helio’s new 12nm MediaTek P35 SoC, paired with up-to 3GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. Besides, the device sports a dedicated memory card slot for storage expansion. The smartphone gets fueled by an unsatisfying 3,020 mAh Battery without having fast charging support. In addition, the phone includes features like FM radio and Smart PA amplifier, increasing the loudness of sound by more than 30%.

Despite being a budget phone, the phone is loaded with Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box. The Android version is flavoured with the latest EMUI 9.0, supporting AI background management and full screen gestures. The smartphone is blessed with TÜV Rheinland certification, avoiding harmful blue light coming out of the screen and reduces the strain to the eyes caused by long-term use.

Honor 8A starts from a very reasonable price tag of 799 Chinese Yuan(~$115) for the 3GB+32GB variant. The 3GB+64GB variant of the device is priced at 999 Chinese Yuan (~$145). Currently, Honor 8A is only available for consumers of China. The device is already up for Pre-Orders and it will officially go on sale from 9th of January.
