Despite being the latest flagship from the company, the OnePlus 5T is getting the Android Oreo update at the last. About a month ago, the OnePlus 5 received the stable Oreo update and now the OnePlus 5T is finally getting it. The phone was launched with Android 7.1.1 Nougat onboard even though Oreo was out months ago. With all the goodies of the Android Oreo, this update also includes OnePlus’ own OxygenOS 5.0.2.

With Android Oreo, Google brought a number of features to its mobile operating system and the most notable of them all are Picture-in-Picture (PiP), Smart Text Selection, new design for Quick Settings, notification dots, and autofill for apps. Alongside these features, the OnePlus 5T owners will also get a few improvements in the OxygenOS ROM, too. Here is the complete changelog:

System

Upgraded Android version to Oreo (8.0)
New design for Quick Settings
General bug fixes and improvements
Applied CPU security patch: CVE-2017-13218

Applications

Updated Launcher to v2.2
Updated Gallery to v2.0
Updated Weather to v1.9
Updated File Manager to v1.7.6

OnePlus 5T OxygenOS 5.0.2 with Android Oreo

This may seem like a small changelog for a major update, but OnePlus had already rolled out the important features with Android Oreo-based OxygenOS Open Beta updates for the OnePlus 5T. In the second beta release, features like caller’s location, smart text selection, OnePlus Switch, auto-tagging folders, etc. were introduced.

Even the latest Open Beta 3 released just yesterday included features like SMS categorisation for Indian OnePlus 5T users, option to change phone call pick up gesture, and iPhone X-like gesture controls. The OxygenOS 5.0.2 also includes the latest security patches along with fixes for Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities.

OnePlus has clearly stated that the Android Oreo-based OxygenOS 5.0.2 update for OnePlus 5T is being rolled out slowly. At first, a small batch of the users will only be updated to this version and then the update will be expanded to cover a wider section of the users. While there are workarounds to get the update asap, we’d suggest waiting a little longer. OnePlus had to pull the Oreo update roll-out for the OnePlus 5 for several unfixed bugs were found.
