Two months ago, we reported that Xiaomi took the second position from Apple in terms of market share trailing just behind Samsung. Apparently, the Chinese smartphone maker has overtaken the world’s largest smartphone maker in terms of units shipped, aka South Korean giant Samsung, in the latest report by Counterpoint.
Xiaomi literally sold more smartphones in June 2021 than its biggest competitors Apple and Samsung on a month-on-month basis. The Chinese smartphone maker’s sales grew by 26 percent in June 2021 compared to its previous month. This made a total of 17.1 percent of the total market share on units sold globally in June 2021. Apparently, Samsung reserved a 15.7 percent market share while Apple did 14.3 percent of total units sold in the same period. This easily gives Xiaomi an edge and also the position of the world’s largest smartphone maker for the month by shipment.
This report was recently published by analysts at Counterpoint. It also mentions that this could be a temporary blow following the surge of COVID-19 patients in Vietnam where a lockdown was organized by the government. This affected the production of phones for Samsung and this was even disclosed at the second-quarter earnings call by Samsung. The South Korean mentions that the production will resume to normal levels soon.
According to Tarun Pathak who is a research director at Counterpoint, Xiaomi took a blow on Huawei’s decline in market share by the means of aggressive marketing and filling up the gap made by Huawei. This caused an exponential inclination towards a market share for Xiaomi. In fact, Xiaomi is currently expanding aggressively in Huawei’s legacy markets such as Africa, Europe, China, and the Middle East.
According to the numbers, Xiaomi is currently the first and the top smartphone manufacturer in India. On the other hand, it maintained the top position in Europe reserving a market share of approx 25 percent for three consecutive months i.e. between April and June (2021 Q2).
Xiaomi is continually growing towards various segments of smartphones. In fact, it is now expanding into the flagship category of phones such as the Mi 11 Ultra to compete against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S-series and Apple iPhones.
