  • Apple is reportedly working on two devices aka - a foldable iPhone and a foldable MacBook.
  • The foldable MacBook will debut in 2025 while the foldable iPhone is slated for 2026 or 2027.
  • Apple hasn't officially confirmed any of the details here so take it with a pinch of salt.

The upcoming foldable iPhone have been a hot topic for some time even though people will have to wait at least till next year to get a glimpse of anything ‘foldable’ from Apple to begin with. Apple’s WWDC 2024 wrapped up on Monday as an event primarily focused on software and AI updates and saw no hardware making its debut as well. Cut to now, we are hearing about two foldable Apple devices slated to arrive in 2025 and 2026 respectively.

Apple’ Hard At Work Behind Two Foldable iPhones and Mac Devices

According to Apple analyst Jeff Pu (whose reputation precedes him), Apple is likely to debut a foldable iPhone in 2026 while other sources take it to next year i.e., 2027. The other foldable device would be a 20.3” foldable MacBook slated to arrive in 2025 (reportedly).

There are not many details available about either of the devices. For one, the foldable iPhone as discussed above, will feature a wrap-around and outward folding design. What do you mean by that? It means instead of a foldable display inside where the phone closes inwards i.e., Galaxy Z Fold5, the purported foldable iPhone will close outwards and straighten itself to give you a large singular display on-board.

What this does is, it eliminates the need to have a cover display. Instead, you need a nice singular and giant display that reduces overall weight. However, it is what also makes the display vulnerable to elements since there’s nothing between the display and other surfaces.

Call it a caveat but it’s there. You must have seen Huawei Mate Xs 2 (Google it if you haven’t) as the upcoming 7.9” foldable iPhone will likely mirror the design. The phone is slated to arrive in 2026 as per Pu while another Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo mentions a 2027 timeline seems like a perfect fit.

Additionally, there will be a foldable MacBook slated to arrive next year (too early?). It will don a 20.3” giant display akin to Lenovo X1 Fold housing a keyboard between two halves when not using it.

As a MacBook, it will be outwardly folding except for the fact that the flexible display extends from the top half to the bottom half as well.

Turns out Apple is progressing faster in the case of a foldable MacBook compared to the foldable iPhone probably because of the outward folding design on the latter. Even if the latter appears somewhere on the internet, we aren’t expecting it to debut until 2026 and if we aren’t that optimistic, let’s say it’s 2027 at the earliest.
