- Apple's upcoming iPhone series could bring a noble feature - a quad-curved OLED display panel.
- This is the first time Apple will bring a curved panel on-board since all previous iPhones have been using flat panels.
- Apple will be celebrating it's 20 years of iPhone with the first launch in 2007 and this could be fully-packed custom phone to launch.
At Apple, something big will happen next year. Turns out it’s the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, and Apple will be all ears to celebrate this auspicious event and a journey spanning two decades. Tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) took it to Weibo to discuss a potential new feature aboard upcoming iPhones in 2027 with a quad-curved design jointly developed by Apple and Samsung. Read along as we divulge some more information on the same lines.
Custom-made iPhone’s 20th anniversary phone could host a quad-curved display
According to Digital Chat Station (DCS), Apple will celebrate the 20th anniversary of iPhones with a new OLED panel on-board iPhone 20 (skipping iPhone 19). The panel, developed by Samsung and Apple, will not have any polarizer. It will have a quad-curved design, and given the perfectionist that Apple is, we are going to see symmetrical curvature on the panel.
Why is this huge? For years, Apple iPhones have been using flat displays. The latest iPhone 17 Pro Max has a flat display too. However, with the iPhone 20 series, the one launching in 2027 to commemorate two decades of iPhones, Apple is likely to ‘reinvent’ the wheel, adding a quad-curved display. Note that we don’t have information on whether the tech is limited to iPhone 20 and if future iPhones will have it too. There are also whispers about whether the entire iPhone 20 lineup will get the quad-curved panel or if it’s just the Pro series.
Apple could be using an all-screen display panel on-board, without the polarizer, to minimize distortions and have no bezels around the edges. However, do note that all this is still rumors and speculation. Apple could still launch a special 20th anniversary iPhone and call it a day without affecting the entire iPhone 20 lineup.
A previous report mentioned Samsung will be developing an OLED technology called Color Filter on Encapsulation (COE) that basically makes the displays thinner and brighter than their previous iterations.
Keep up with the tech that actually matters.
