Highlights
  • Apple’s M5 chip will make its first appearance in the refreshed iPad Pro models, offering improved performance and power efficiency.
  • The M5 iPad Pro is likely to launch in October 2025, approximately 17 months after the M4-based models debuted in May 2024.
  • Built on TSMC’s enhanced 3-nanometer process, the M5 chip is expected to boost speed while extending battery life.

Apple plans to update its iPad Pro lineup with the M5 chip this fall. The new model would launch about 17 months after the M4 iPad Pro came out in May 2024 with the M4 chip and OLED display. If Apple follows its usual schedule, the M5 iPad Pro could be announced in October 2025.

M5 iPad Pro will feature faster chip, familiar look

The new M5 iPad Pro models will be Apple’s first devices to use the next-gen M5 chip, according to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. This comes after the M4 iPad Pro launched in May 2024 with an OLED screen and slimmer build.

The M5 chip is expected to use TSMC’s upgraded 3-nanometer (N3E) technology and should give faster speed and better power saving. This matches Apple’s goal to improve battery life and performance in all its devices.

Although the M4 iPad Pro made big changes in design and screen technology, the 2025 M5 iPad Pro will keep the same slim build and OLED display from last year. This shows Apple is focusing more on upgrading the inside than changing how it looks.

Apple is said to be working on new display technologies to make bezels even smaller, but it’s uncertain if these upgrades will be ready for the M5 iPad Pro this year. If not, these updates may be saved for a future model.
