  • Apple is apparently working on an Apple Maps for Android.
  • This would put Apple Maps on the forefront of more than 3.9 billion Android phones out there.
  • Apple Maps still has a lot of catch up to do with Google Maps, considered as one of the best navigational app out there.

Unlike Google Maps which is available on both Android and iOS, there’s no Apple Maps for Android out there. With its debut in iOS 6, Apple Maps has been playing catch up with Google Maps in terms of its features, coverage, and beyond, nonetheless, it hasn’t been able to grow to that extent yet.

However, it seems like Apple is finally cashing in on the opportunity to appear on more than 3 billion Android devices (via Auto Evolution) as there’s an Apple Maps for Android in the works. Of course, everything is kept mum at Cupertino.

Apple Maps has made leaps in terms of features and coverage. It recently launched ‘Transit’ for Tokyo which covers 20 major train, bus, and railway lines. The feature is available across larger metropolitan cities across the globe, however, it is nowhere closer to what Google Maps users have been able to witness over the years.

Cut to now, Apple is currently working on an Android app for Apple Maps that would put the navigation app across billions of non-Apple devices out there. However, mum’s the word since Cupertino-based Apple hasn’t divulged any information officially at the time of writing this.

The latest iOS 18 brought a few major upgrades to Apple Maps including topography maps with trails across U.S. national parks, custom hiking routes, offline hikes, and notes for trials. Users can attend the same trail on another date.

Google Maps, on the other hand, has a much wider coverage in terms of transit data, live traffic, street view, and beyond. It means Apple Maps will have to do a lot more before Android users finally choose to switch to Apple Maps (for some reason I would doubt).

Apple recently released Apple Maps on the web giving Windows OS users a chance to try it out across Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome browsers. It remains to be seen whether when the Apple Maps for Android arrives at Google Play Store so let’s keep an eye on it. Check out this space as we will update you on what the buzz is all about.
