Apple is sending out a rare iOS update to older iPhones and iPads

If you are still holding on to your dear iPhone 5S (or 6 or 6 Plus), you should be on your toes to get the latest iOS update that’s covering older iPhones and iPads that are not supported with iOS 13 and thereafter. The update is particularly an important one as it tends to resolve a security issue that was recently plugged in latest iOS version as well.

Apple is now sending out iOS 12.5.6 update to older iPhones and iPads alike to plug a security issue. This is particularly a rare update rolling out after Apple renders iOS 13 not compatible with older iPhones and iPads which raises the stakes that you must get the patch done.

Apple iPhone 6 Plus

Apparently, there’s an security threat lurking around that can potentially aid malicious websites run uncensored codes often as a popular way to infiltrate into a system. It affects links clicked via Safari and other web browsers which means if you had clicked on any link via these apps, you might be under the radar of the attackers potentially getting hold of your phone and the sensitive data therein.

Note that this isn’t something out of the extraordinary. These type of issues have been plaguing systems forever. Although panic is not needed, precaution is advisable.

With that being said, the iOS 12.5.6 will actually plug this exploit keeping you secure against such attacks. Apparently, the Cupertino-based giant added that there’s a likelihood that this bug might have been exploited so it becomes even more imperative to get the patch done.

You can go Settings > General > Software Update to check whether the update has arrived and download it. If not, you will have to simply wait for the update to arrive which shouldn’t take much time.

To list of devices that are getting the update, it’s the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, the original iPad Air, sixth-gen iPod Touch, iPad Mini 2 and 3 to name them all.
