Apple has started sending out invites for WWDC 2017, calling out all the media for a four-day event from June 5th. The first day includes the Keynote from CEO Tim Cook, followed by a series of events for the next three days. The event’s venue for this year is McEnery Convention Centre in San Jose, California which is a shift from their previous favorite, Moscone Centre which they had been using for the past nine years.
Like any previous WWDC invite, this one doesn’t give much hint either as to what is getting launched or unveiled. Although there are speculations about the iPhone 8, it will definitely not get announced as the traditional launch is usually within the month of September. The event is mostly focussed towards software and developers, so it’s likely that Apple will launch its developer preview of iOS 11.
Like with any new software update, iOS 11 is expected to bring a bunch of new features. One of those being the rumored revamp of Apple Music. Apple Music may get a bit more video-centric on iOS 11, with as many as ten original shows by the end of 2017. This video content plan currently includes documentaries on Drake’s music label, Cash Money Records and Clive Davis, Planet of the Apps, and the Carpool Karaoke. Alongside with those, Can’t Stop Won’t Stop, featuring Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, was just announced as an Apple Music exclusive.
Other expected key features of iOS 11 include group FaceTime video calling, and ending support for 32-bit apps. All the new features will be listed at WWDC, while the final and polished software won’t be available until the next iPhone launch in September.
