Apple has announced the iOS 14, macOS Big Sur, and some of its other software updates during its WWDC 2020 yesterday. Now, according to a new report, Apple is planning to release the third generation of its most popular TWS earphone series — Apple Airpods 3. The rumors and leaks of the same have started surfacing online. Amidst the several speculations, a new rumor utters around the possible launch of the Airpods 3.
According to the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is known for his most reliable predictions, the Apple AirPods 3 will be announced in the first half of 2021 and will also come with a similar design to the AirPods Pro. As the AirPods 2 was launched in March 2021, we can likely expect the AirPods 3 to launch in the month of March next year. Kuo believes that the company will continue to sell the AirPods 2 through this year’s holiday season and will possibly replace them with the third-generation AirPods later.
As mentioned earlier, Kuo also hints the possible design of AirPods 3. He mentioned that the design could recreate the one found on the AirPods Pro. To recall, the AirPods Pro was launched back in November 2019. The Pro variant was an absolute stand-out from the AirPods 2 with its in-ear design and silicon tips. The AirPods Pro was announced with features like active noise cancellation, water resistance, and a lot more. So, going by the “similar design” phrase by Kuo, we can expect the AirPods 3 to come with the in-ear design, shorter stem, and better sound and could be priced at $199 (roughly 15,000 INR) just like the AirPods 2.
Although the reports suggest that the AirPods 3 will come with an active noise-cancellation, it is very unlikely to happen as there will be no differentiating factor between the Pro and the non-Pro variants then. The addition of noise-cancellation and other features to the non-Pro AirPods will seemingly happen if Apple plans to discontinue the AirPods Pro series. Regardless of that, it is also suggested that Apple will not include the EarPods in the box starting with the iPhone 12 series. This is expected to drive more people to get the AirPods this year. Kuo also stated that the sales of AirPods is collapsed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
