After being fined for a whopping €4.3 billion by the European Commission (EC), Google is finally trying to fix the situation by offering users in the EU to have alternative search and browser apps that will be available through Google PLay. According to Google’s Product Management Director Paul Gennai, the blog post contained details about the latest update that will give recommendations to the EU users after they update the Google Play app.

According to the blog post, once the user updates the Google Play app, the users will get to see two new screens i.e. new search engine recommendations and another will show browsers recommendations. Perhaps the apps will be arranged based on popularity and will include apps that are already installed arranged in top five recommendations where users can choose based on their choices.

An antitrust lawsuit was filed against Google with the European Commission stating that the tech giant forces phone manufacturers to preinstall all Google apps often called Google Suite. The suite includes apps like YouTube, Google Maps, and most importantly, Google Search and Google Chrome which is default on all Android smartphones. The allegations are that Google doesn’t allow OEMs to install Google Maps or any other app from the Google Suite without installing all the apps as well. On the other hand, Google stated that these allegations are not true and OEMs are allowed to either use all the apps in the Google Suite or install few of them which of course has a different payment package.

EU alleged that Google forced its users to use Search and Chrome to do about their business but as per the latest update, Google will throw recommendations towards the users based in EU containing five popular Google Search alternatives like Qwant, DuckDuckGo, and others while on the other hand, it will give five popular Google Chrome recommendations like Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, etc.

Google will start rolling out the update across Europe where all existing and new Android devices will get to check out the latest app recommendation feature amidst the Google Play app.
