Amidst the ongoing drama between OpenAI, the board of directors, and Sam Altman who was fired and rehired at OpenAI, ChatGPT was able to roll out a coveted feature that lets you use voice commands for queries much like Siri or Google Assistant.

For the unversed, ChatGPT requires users to type in their queries and the responses are textual as well. However, ChatGPT rolled out voice prompts enabling users to use their voice for queries and receive a verbal response. This feature was limited to Plus and Enterprise users. However, amidst the ongoing debacle, the feature has been rolled out to free users across both iOS and Android devices.

ChatGPT, an AI chatbot, converts spoken words into text i.e. speech to text, and processes it using the Large Language Model (LLM). Based on the queries, a verbal response is fired to the users much like Google Assistant, Alexa or Siri would. Luckily, this feature has been rolled out to all free users and on both Android and iOS clients.

All you need to do is tap on the ‘headphone’ icon instead of typing your query and voila, you will get the response in 5 distinct voices that you can set up via Settings >> Voice. There’s also support to select between 35 languages that’ll help get answers in the language you are more comfortable with.

OpenAI has been undergoing an electrifying couple of days after its CEO Sam Altman was abruptly fired from the company on a Google Meet. Soon enough, president and co-founder Greg Brockman left the company owing to Altman’s existence. Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella reportedly hired Sam Altman and his team members to work at the tech giant in a new division, however, Altman was rehired at OpenAI following certain governance changes.
