News around upcoming slim phones broke a few months ago and the tech world was amused. The excitement peaked at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event, where Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S25 Edge—a device that is not only a powerhouse but also one of the slimmest phones ever made. Well, if Samsung could do it (not that it can’t), other smartphone makers are already knee deep in their processes to roll out their iteration of ultra-thin phones and here’s a glimpse.
Chinese Smartphone Brands Preparing for Fleet of Upcoming Ultra-Thin Phones
According to reputed tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) via Weibo, Samsung teased its Galaxy S25 Edge and that has fueled Chinese makers to quicken their process. With that being said, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Oppo are already on their way to launch ultra-slim phones probably this year.
Unfortunately, DCS didn’t divulge any specifics regarding upcoming slim phones from Chinese OEMs but did mention bigger battery sizes. Previous reports suggest Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge will pick up a 3,786mAh battery pack (typically rated at 3,900mAh). In fact, the upcoming Apple iPhone 17 Air, slated for launch sometime in May this year, will pack in a battery under 4,000mAh. It is perhaps due to size constraints in a phone that is going to be under 5.5mm in thickness.

On the other hand, Chinese makers might put more juice in their upcoming slim phones. We are expecting the trio – Vivo, Xiaomi, and Oppo will use battery packs upwards of 4,000mAh to give both Samsung and Apple a competitive edge. Unlike Galaxy S25 Edge which is a proper flagship phone, these Chinese slim phones will cling to a more affordable market segment at mid-range or sub-series range. This will ultimately make slim phones accessible for more people compared to buying an already expensive flagship slim phone out there.
While launch dates and specific model details remain undisclosed, the anticipation is building. For now, all we can do is stay tuned for more updates on what could be a transformative year for smartphone innovation.
