GoT prequel House of the Dragon renewed for second season

Well, if you were one of the people who watched the House of the Dragon when it premiered on August 22, it made one of the highest records that day. The House of the Dragon was watched by 9.986 million people in the US across both the TV and the OTT platforms thereby scoring almost five times that of its parent series. It became so popular overnight that HBO has already announced a second season for the Game of Thrones prequel. Note that we still have nine episodes of the prequel to go.

The House of the Dragon renewed for a second season

According to the Hindustan Times, the premiere episode of the House of the Dragon was viewed by 9.986 million people across OTT and TV in the U.S. alone. For context, the Game of Thrones that aired on August 17, 2011, was watched by 2.2 million people which means the latest prequel took the world by storm by at least a magnitude five times that of the original series.

Based on George RR Martin’s Fire and Blood, the series has finally received an affirmation from the makers at HBO for a second series. The first season has ten episodes of which, one has already aired and nine will be aired on Sundays each concluding the same on October 23, 2022. HBO took it to Twitter to announce the success of the first episode and announce the second series as well as thanking all the cast, crew, showrunners, George RR Martin, and others involved in the process.

House of the Dragon

The House of the Dragon is set 200 years ahead of the events of the Game of Thrones before the popular Dance of the Dragons civil war. You will see almost all the main star cast make it to the second season including Paddy Considine (as King Viserys I Targaryen), Rhys Ifans (as Ser Otto Hightower), Emma D’Arcy (as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen), Matt Smith (as Prince Daemon Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (as Older Alicent Hightower), Steffan Rhodri (as Hobert Hightower) among others.

As for the release of the second season, it is shrouded under mystery as HBO hasn’t confirmed the dates at least at the time of writing this. But we should see more information about the House of the Dragon Season 2 the first episodes from Season 2 air.
