First Emoji(or Emoticons) then Stickers and now Avatars, this culture is being cultivated each and every day. Apple’s Animoji or an animated emoji is very famous these days. And we have already seen Bitmoji that works very well with this avatar culture. So, Facebook Announces Avatars, a direct competitor of Bitmoji and Apple’s Animoji.

Facebook’s Avatars feature, which allows you to customize a virtual lookalike of yourself to be used as stickers in comments and Messenger chats, is today launching within the U.S. Essentially Facebook’s version of Snap’s Bitmoji, Avatars were first introduced last year and are since made available in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and Canada.

Avatars could seem a touch silly, but they permit a sort of self-expression that extends beyond the capabilities of text and emoji alone. On digital platforms, using an avatar is often a helpful thanks to indicating the tone of your comment, so you’re not misinterpreted. Plus, many of us like having the choice of crafting a digital character that seems like them — meaning their candy-colored hair, piercings, glasses, goatees, sense of favor or anything else doesn’t encounter when using just an emoji alone.

Facebook described Avatars as digital personas that let people engage in a more personal, dynamic way, with a range of emotions and expressions via stickers, messages,  and Stories.

Facebook application head Fidji Simo said in a post, “So many of our interactions these days are taking place online, which is why it’s more important than ever to be able to express yourself personally on Facebook. Avatars enable you to share a range of emotions and expressions via a digital persona that’s uniquely representative of you, so we’re excited to bring this new form of self-expression to more people around the world.”

She continued, “There are so many different ways you can use your Avatar, including in comments, Stories, Messenger—and soon text posts with backgrounds, too. With so many emotions and expressions to choose from, Avatars let you react and engage more authentically with family and friends across the app. It’s important to us that you can personalize your Avatar so that it represents your unique, authentic self, which is why we’re also adding in a new range of customizations, too—such as new hairstyles, complexions and outfits.”

Initially, Facebook users are going to be able to found out their Avatar from either the Facebook or Messenger comment composer. From here, you’ll click on the smiley face icon that takes you to stickers. You’ll then see a replacement option: “Make Your Avatar.”

After completing your Avatar, you’ll return to edit it at any time from Facebook’s Bookmark section (the three horizontal lines within the bottom-right of the Facebook mobile app.) You’ll get to click on “See More,” then “Avatars,” within the list that appears.

Today, the Avatars are often used with Facebook comments and Messenger conversations, and that they are often used on your Facebook Gaming profile. But soon, Facebook says Avatars are going to be ready to be utilized in text posts with backgrounds.
