Samsung has managed to steer away from deploying a pop-up camera module on its smartphones until now. But hey, there’s only so many designs that Samsung could use to mitigate both increased screen real estate while placing the front camera in a non-obstructive way. Well, turns out Samsung is reportedly working on its first-ever smartphone with a pop-up camera. Nothing is confirmed from the South Korean giant yet but thanks to the popular leakster @OnLeaks in collaboration with Pigtou, we might have our first glance at a revolutionary device.
Steve posted a 360° CAD-based render to showcase the upcoming device from all possible angles. Turns out it looks familiar, something we have seen with OnePlus 7 Pro and similar devices from Xiaomi and Honor as well.
Talking about the render, the display has reduced bezels with no front camera visible. It looks like a premium almost edge-to-edge display. No, it isn’t a Galaxy or Note device because there’s a tell. Have a look at the back panel and it could be an upcoming Galaxy A-series smartphone thanks to the curved edges and a fingerprint scanner at the back.
The phone could have a screen size of approx 6.5-inch and will be almost 9.2mm thick without counting for the rear camera bump and 9.7mm counting it. The most interesting thing about this phone is definitely its front pop-up camera module that pops up for the left side on the top.
Give the phone a spin and it is clear that there’s no headphone jack which is of course annoying. There are a speaker grille and a Type-C USB port at the bottom with a noise-canceling mic. On the right side, you’ll find a power button and volume rockers placed in the vicinity for better accessibility.
Of course, we don’t know when it will arrive or what it will be called. The same thing goes for the specifications as we are blank. But it is going to be epic considering that it is the first phone from Samsung to sport a pop-up camera module that will compete against several rivals when it arrives in a couple of months.
