- Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will reportedly arrive with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, however, that has caused a lot of steer.
- Fabbed by TSMC, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC is reportedly bringing a significant GPU performance boost probably at the cost of its CPU.
- A leaker mentioned interested buyers should probably wait for Galaxy S26 Ultra instead to escape the less powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Series will be among the first flagships to launch in early 2025. More importantly, the top-of-the-line Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. Latest reports citing various sources suggest a mix of responses which means we are now left at large second-guessing whether the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC will see a CPU performance boost or will be limited to a GPU boost.
Internal Testing Data Shows Significant GPU Boost on Galaxy S25 Ultra
One part of this story is, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC for Galaxy S25 Ultra across all markets will see Adreno 750 GPU under the hood. The chipset built on TSMC’s 3nm 3NE process reportedly peaks in terms of GPU performance. A leakster compares the chipset with Dimensity 9300 SoC according to which, SD8 Gen4 can reach peak GPU performance as D9300 while consuming half of the power.
For the uninitiated, it means Adreno 750 GPU onboard Galaxy S25 Ultra will channel an insane increase in graphics processing. However, the other side of the story signals a mere single-digit change in CPU performance. Qualcomm is switching to Oryon CPU cores with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC that we earlier saw with the Snapdragon X Elite class of chipsets for PCs. With a mere digit increase in CPU performance, this could potentially mean Galaxy S25 Ultra may not be able to triumph over S24 Ultra making it worthless to upgrade.
The leakster highlighted that interested buyers should wait for the 2026 Galaxy S26 Ultra for which, it will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 AP with better performance.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC May Only Boost GPU Performance
According to Sam Mobile, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC is rumored to bring AI-powered frame generation technology. This would mean an impact in gaming performance such as the phone should be able to run Genshin Impact at 1080p with 120fps. It should be able to churn AAA games similar to the iPhone 15 Pro’s A17 Pro SoC.

However, it all comes down to an underlying theme — its CPU performance may not be up to the mark. Although we are expecting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 to throw around a significant performance gain as showcased by the Snapdragon X Elite for PCs, all the recent reports point towards GPU boost and not CPU boost.
Qualcomm will launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC at its Snapdragon Summit between October 21-23rd. Soon, Xiaomi 15 Series is in-line to gain the chipset labeling itself as the first device ever to pick the latest chipset. Soon, we will see other manufacturers picking the chipset with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra arriving in early 2025. It remains to be seen if the aforementioned details on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC are true (we hope the CPU part is not true at all.
