The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are the two highly anticipated smartphones for this year. There have been innumerous leaks and rumours around the two phones confirming their possible design and specifications. Now, a new report has surfaced that suggests the announcement and shipping dates of the 2018 Samsung flagships.

Evan Blass (@evleaks) has spilled the beans on the date when the Galaxy S9 and S9+ would be announced and it falls in line with what the earlier leaks had suggested. According to Blass’ tweet, the official announcement of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will take place on 26th February, the very first day of MWC 2018. The phones will then be up for pre-orders from 1st March and they finally ship on 16th March.

In his tweet, Blass noted that the details have been confirmed by an executive at a casemaker. The major case manufacturers get the official smartphone prototypes well in advance of the phone’s official launch so that the cases can be made ready alongside the phone’s release. Which also gives the casemakers access to the release schedule of the phone. Moreover, Blass has always been a reliable source in such matters and we can trust him on this one as well.

While Samsung has been consistent in launching its flagships during the MWC each year, last year was an exception. The Galaxy S8 was late by more than a month and was released in April. So, with Samsung coming back on track of its launch schedule, the Galaxy S8-series won’t even be a year old while the Galaxy S9 is being announced.

Quite recently, the retail box of the Galaxy S9 had leaked suggesting the presence of stereo speakers and the rear camera with variable aperture. The camera was mentioned to support super slow-mo video capturing and the phone would be IP68 rated. A few cases have also leaked online to show how the two phones would end up looking like. The bigger Galaxy S9+ is expected to get dual rear cameras while the smaller flagship would have just one.
