  • Samsung claims it will produce 3.5 million units of Galaxy Z Fold8 this year as it readies the device to compete against Z Flip8.
  • The South Korean giant saw huge spike in Fold ownership last year and expects the same trend will mimic this year as well.
  • It will be sharing space with existing Z Fold and Flip phones as well as Galaxy Wide-Body and Galaxy Z TriFold.

The South Korean giant, Samsung, is planning to mint more units of the Galaxy Z Fold8, as it is expected to outsell the Galaxy Z Flip8, and that’s a biggie. This goes in line with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, expected to launch soon, as it will outsell all its counterparts. Proceed to read the whole story.

Galaxy Z Fold8 production targets indicate changing priorities

Samsung will be launching two new foldable phones this year, i.e., Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8. According to ET News, the South Korean giant is planning to produce 3.5 million units of Samsung Galaxy Fold8 this year. For perspective, it will produce around 2.5 million to 3 million units of Galaxy Z Flip8 heading to launch later this year.

Why the fold series is gaining momentum

Why is this interesting, you’d ask? Turns out, clamshell-styled foldable phones have already been popular. In fact, out of 100% of the foldable phones sold, Samsung mentioned selling 60 to 70% of Z Flips in terms of sales volume, which leaves Z Folds with the measly 30 to 40%. However, things changed in 2025 when Galaxy Z Fold7 took over the leaderboard in terms of sales, and this is something the South Korean is expecting to repeat this year as well.

Thus, we have 3.5 million units of the book-style foldable Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, while the clamshell Z Flip8 takes around 2.5-3 million units. Note that we still have 1 million units of the Galaxy Wide Fold in the pipeline. There’s also the Galaxy Z TriFold taking some share in the foldable segments.

Galaxy S26 Ultra expected to drive early-year sales

With the Samsung Galaxy S26 series likely arriving later this month, we could see the S26 Ultra taking a lion’s share of approximately 73.5% in initial production allocation, while the S26 takes home 14.3% and the S26+ takes 12.2% of the total production allocation. Although these numbers are far more accurate (unreleased figures), we are expecting a huge footfall for the S26 series, post which, the Z Fold8 and Z Flip8 will take over the second half of this year, as they usually debut in July each year.
