On October 19, Google held its largest launch event dubbed Pixel Fall Launch where it showcased quite an array of products. The list includes Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, Google’s proprietary and in-house Tensor SoC with enhanced ML and AI performance, and a Pixel Stand. Let’s recount everything Google launched starting with the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro here.
Google Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro Pricing, and Availability
I won’t give any false hope but Google Pixel 6 series isn’t coming to India. It is launching in the U.S. as you read it, starting at a price tag of $599 for the base 8GB+128GB variant. You can grab the higher 8GB+256GB variant too at a slightly higher price tag. You can choose between Stormy Black, Kinda Coral, Sorta Seafoam as three color options with textured aluminum frames.
The Pixel 6 Pro goes on sale for $899 for the base 12GB+128GB variant while there are 1. If both the devices were to make it to India, the pricing would have shot up.GB+256GB and 12GB+256GB variants as well. The colors available with the Pixel 6 Pro are Stormy Black, Sorta Sunny, and Cloudy White.
Both the smartphones are up for grab in the U.S. starting October 28 with pre-orders starting as early as the day of launch i.e. October 19. Its availability in other markets is still under wraps although its Indian launch appears faded but let’s see where it goes.
Google Pixel 6 Specifications
Both the models have some of the nicest specifications in the premium smartphone segment. Both Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro runs on Android 12 out-of-the-box and come with no less than 3 to 4 major Android OS upgrades as usual.
Talking about the Pixel 6 display, the device gets a 6.4-inch FHD+ OLED panel with a punch-hole at the middle, a 90Hz refresh rate, and for protection, there’s a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on top of it. The display boasts a 441 PPI density and a 20:9 display ratio making it taller than wider. Pixel 6 is powered by Google’s in-house and proprietary octa-core Tensor SoC with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM strapped on it. The chipset is manufactured on a 5nm node with two Cortex-X1 high-performance cores making it the first smartphone to use two X1 cores instead of one.
The chipset comes with a Titan M2 security chip built-in that prevents any attacks on your data whatsoever. There are even 5 years of security updates for the smartphone so that it stays put even with the brutal attacks over the years.
Pixel 6 packs in a dual rear camera setup which includes a 50MP primary sensor with f/1.85 aperture and offers a big improvement compared to Pixel 5 with an increased light gathering ability by 150 percent. The second camera is a 12MP ultrawide snapper. This is the same camera setup that Pixel 6 shares with the Pro version albeit it has a third camera as well. It is equipped with OIS and PDAF among other features.
The front is handled by an 8MP shooter housed in a punch-hole cut-out at the center which is way smaller than the Pixel 6 Pro’s front camera. A feature called Quick Tap to Snap from Google and Snap enables users to snag a snap for Snapchat even if the phone is locked. Another feature that comes on-board Pixel 6 series is Magic Eraser that lets users erase unwanted objects and people in a photo.
The device uses a 4,616 mAh battery is supplied with 30W fast wired charging and a 21W wireless charging. There’s also a Battery Share feature on-board Pixel 6 that lets you charge other devices wirelessly. Unfortunately, you won’t find a wired or wireless charger in the retail box so that’s a boo-boo.
Google Pixel 6 is paired with a tonne of connectivity features including Bluetooth v5.2, NFC, 5G, and 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, USB Type-C port, and an under-the-display fingerprint scanner.
Google Pixel 6 Pro Specifications
Google Pixel 6 Pro shares a lot of specifications with the non-Pro version. It includes an octa-core Tensor chipset made up of a 5nm fabrication process housing two Cortex-X1 cores along with two mid-level and four power-efficient cores thanks to its tricluster arrangement. The chipset has been improved with its AI and ML performance to the next level.
The device has a 6.7-inch QHD+ display with a 120Hz variable refresh rate, and LTPO AMOLED panel and it has a punch-hole front-camera setup with an 11.1MP fixed-focus sensor. The display has a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on top and it is a but curvier that Google summons as 3D glass.
The rear camera setup houses a triple camera. It houses a 48MP telephoto sensor with 20x Super Res Zoom capability. There’s the same 50MP+12MP ultrawide dual-camera setup as seen with the non-Pro variant.
Google Pixel 6 Pro has a large-sized 5,000 mAh battery that suits under the hood paired with 30W fast wired and a 23W fast wireless charging tech sing the Pixel Stand charger launched alongside the two models. There’s no charger in the retail box, unfortunately.
